Thank you for your application. We appreciate your interest in volunteering with the Study
Circle. As a Teaching Assistant (TA) volunteer you will be very important part of the Study
Circle team. As a TA you will be entrusted with certain duties and responsibilities outlined
below:
1. Report your presence in the school to the office, prior to beginning each volunteer
activity;
2. Let the school know when you are going to be absent from or late for a commitment
to volunteer at a particular time;
3. Wear identification as outlined by the school to help identify volunteers to staff and
students;
4. Be aware that confidentiality is essential since in this roles, you may come to know
sensitive information (e.g. a student’s academic ability, relationship with others,
behaviour, etc.); understand that confidential information must remain confidential
and must not be shared with others;
5. Not assume responsibility for the diagnosis of learning strengths or difficulties, the
assignment of program, or the assessment and evaluation of pupil progress;
6. Understand that disciplining students is not the responsibility of volunteers; If
concerned about a student’s behaviour, speak to the student’s teacher or the principal
if the teacher is not available;
7. Participating in any training or orientation sessions offered to volunteers in the
school, including review of orientation material and Code of Ethics, that would assist
them in their role as volunteers to enhances the skills and confidence of volunteers in
working with our students;
8. Be aware of the school’s expectations for appropriate demeanour when dealing with
staff and students, and to uphold the policy/code regarding a Respectful Workplace
and Learning Environment;
9. Avoid potentially sensitive situations with students (e.g. avoid one-on-one situations
such as working with students in an isolated area);
10. If experiencing difficulty in carrying out their assigned duties, bring their concern to
their teacher, supervisor and/or to the principal as appropriate;
11. Lead by example: Language, leadership, and listening skills; take initiative in the
classroom to proactively support teacher;
12.Supporting Teachers and staff at the School including monitoring students and
helping students complete their work. You will follow the instruction of the teacher;
13. You may also assist outside the classroom in the office duties assigned by the Staff;
14. Communicate with the parents and students and provide necessary information;
15. During the working hours no electronics (cell phones, iPod etc) are allowed. In
addition, no personal homework or readings.
