$22,000 Dissertation Grant for Research on Religion and Philanthropy Offered by Lake
Institute on Faith & Giving
Application Deadline is January 31, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS—The Lake Institute on Faith and Giving is accepting applications for the
2012 Lake Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, a $22,000 award for a Ph.D. candidate working
in the fields of faith and giving or religion and philanthropy. The fellowship is intended to
support the final year of research and dissertation writing.
Applications are being accepted through January 31, 2012. Submission guidelines and forms
are available on the Lake Institute

Past fellowship recipients have come from a variety of academic disciplines and studied
diverse topics. The 2011 fellow, David King, a student of religion at Emory University, is
completing his research on the evolution of World Vision’s religious identity and the face of
religion in philanthropic organizations. Previous fellowship winners have focused on issues
such as practices of religious-based mutual funds, the historical importance of Evangelical
businessmen during the Depression and World War II years, and the real-world implications
of adherence to The Prosperity Gospel, a theology that holds that wealth is a sign of favor
from God.
