Memphis and its Necropolis – the Pyramid Fields from Giza to Dahshur The great barrier reef is located in the coral sea off the coast of Queensland. Its most southern point is 24°29’54"S 154°00’04"E and the most northern point is 10°40’55"S 145°00’04"E. Within the great barrier reef there are • 1625 species of fish, including 1400 coral reef species • More than 3000 species of molluscs (shells) • 630 species of echinoderm (starfish, sea urchins) • 14 breeding species of sea snakes • 215 species of birds including 22 species of seabirds and 32 species of shorebirds • Six of the world's seven species of marine turtle • 30 species of whales and dolphins • One of the world's most important dugong populations • 133 species of sharks and rays Above :coral bleaching on the great barrier reef. T he great barrier reef is a world heritage site because it fits these criteria: 1. Criterion (vii): to contain superlative natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance; the great barrier reef fits criteria 7 because It provides some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. Criterion (viii) to be outstanding examples representing major stages of earth's history, including the record of life, significant on-going geological processes in the development of landforms, or significant geomorphic or physiographic features; It fits criteria 8 because the great barrier reef extends 2000 kilometres along the queensland coast. It is a globally outstanding example of an ecosystem that has evolved over a millennia the area has been flooded by at least glacial and interglacial cycles. Criterion (ix) to be outstanding examples representing significant on-going ecological and biological processes in the evolution and development of terrestrial, fresh water, coastal and marine ecosystems and communities of plants and animals; T he complex cross shelf, longshore and vertical connectivity is influenced by dynamic oceanic currents and ecological processes keep going such as upwelings larval dispersal and migration. C riterion (x): 1. to contain the most important and significant natural habitats for in-situ conservation of biological diversity, including those containing threatened species of outstanding universal value from the point of view of science or conservation. The enormous size of the great barrier reef means it is one of the most complex natural ecosystems on earth. And one of the most significant for biodiversity conservation. The the GBR is the worlds most complex expanse of coral reefs. the fields are located on the out skirts of Cairo Egypt. And some 9km inland into the desert from the old town of Giza on the Nile. And 25km southwest of Cairo city centre. The complex of ancient monuments includes the three pyramid complexes known as the great pyramids and also the massive sculpture known as the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers' village and an industrial complex.
