Claysburg-Kimmel Basketball Program Team Rules and Guidelines
General Policies:
Welcome to the Claysburg-Kimmel basketball program, we truly appreciate your participation in the program
and parent’s support of each athlete and the program as a whole. Each season begins with the expectation of
having a successful season and to build a program that the entire community can be proud of. The basketball
program is and should be viewed as an extension of the school and all school policies which currently govern
students are applicable to the basketball program. Specific rules for the program are as follows:
Violation of the following rules and guidelines will result in the following penalties enforced by the
basketball program coaching staff. Additional penalties may be enforced at the discretion of school
administration:
a. First Offense = Player will not start a game
b. Second Offense = Player will not participate in a portion or an entire game
c. Third Offense = Player will be dismissed from the team
1. Players are ineligible to participate in any competitive event if they are failing 2 or more courses in
any given week.
2. No disrespect of others will be tolerated. This includes: basketball teammates, all ClaysburgKimmel basketball coaching staff members, fans and all Claysburg-Kimmel School District
employees and students, opposing team players, coaches, fans and game officials. Actions which
undermine or embarrass the team will not be tolerated.
3. Basketball equipment is the property of the Claysburg-Kimmel School District and once issued to an
athlete becomes their responsibility. Lost or abused equipment will be replaced at the cost of the
athlete. Per PIAA policy every player must wear all the equipment issued for each game, without the
proper equipment or worn in the proper manner the player will not be permitted to participate.
4. All athletes will report for practice, away games, home games and all other basketball related
activities at the time specified for the event.
5. Appropriate attire will be worn to away games; the school’s dress code will apply for this matter. If
the athlete is not dressed per the dress code policy they will not be permitted to travel with the team
and may be subject to the penalties listed above.
6. Each situation will be viewed individually and assessed by the coaching staff and school
administration with penalties enforced accordingly.
Attendance Policies:
1. It is the expectation that each athlete is present for the entire practice every single day. Once the
athlete decides to participate in the program it is expected that this program becomes their priority
from the time the season begins to the time it ends. Please schedule family vacations and other
activities accordingly.
2. Missing practice without notifying the coach in advance will result in a loss of start or game time.
Each athlete is important to the team and each teammate relies on each other to do their job. Please
notify the head coach of planned missed practices with a minimum of 24 hr. notice. This will require
written parent notification addressed to the head coach. Missed practices resulting due to an
emergency or extenuating circumstance will be taken into consideration by the coaching staff, i.e.
urgent medical appointments or funerals. Practices missed due to planned medical appointments are
to follow the 24 hr. time line and be accompanied by a written excuse by the practicing medical
professional. Missing practice will not be tolerated and will impact an athlete’s playing time.
Commitment and dedication to the success of the program is expected. Failure to follow these rules
will result in the disciplinary action listed above.

Practice:
1. Athletes are expected to be at every practice as indicated in the attendance policy. The athletes are
expected to be on time as specified and to be ready to begin practice as specified.
2. All rules previously mentioned will apply to practice and each athlete is expected to provide
maximum effort during every drill, every practice, every day. It is only with this effort that the
athlete can expect to see game time action and contribute to the team’s overall success. Failure to do
so may result in less game time action than desired and/or additional penalties i.e. additional
running, extended drills, etc.
3. Every effort will be made to maintain a consistent schedule for practice, however, the program is
results-based and if additional time for practice is warranted to achieve maximum results, athletes
may see extended practice time or additional practices. Notice of these changes will be
communicated as early as possible.
Driving Responsibilities:
1.
Some athletes may choose to drive to and from practice in addition to school. If the decision is made
to drive to practice all rules which govern driving and parking on the school property as set forth by
the school district apply during all basketball related events including practice. The parking lot is
monitored by security cameras, coaching staff and other school employees. Violation of these rules
will not be tolerated and the penalties previously listed will be enforced and additional penalties
from the school district may be enforced as well. Please drive safely and responsibly at all times.
Other Guidelines:
Often there are unforeseen issues which may arise; however, these ‘issues’ will be handled with fairness
to all concerned as well as observance of already established school district rules and penalties. Actions
such as theft, fighting and threats are grounds for immediate dismissal from the team and potential for
further action by the school district. Athletes are expected to follow all rules set forth by the school and
disciplinary infractions during school will carry over to the basketball program as well. The basketball
program will follow the following guidelines for enforcement of school based infractions:
a. Regular & Extended school detention = Player will not start a game and possibly miss a
portion of game time which will be determined on an individual basis
b. In school suspension = Player will not participate in a game (school administration will factor
in on ultimate decision)
Parents:
1. Concerns regarding playing time should not be discussed with coaches after practices or games. The
proper process for addressing playing time and other concerns is to ask the coach to set up a
meeting. At the meeting the parents, head coach, athletic director, and principal will address any
player, parent, or coaching concerns.
2. The head coach will respond to phone calls and other communications as soon as possible depending
on the coach’s availability and need to gather information (applicable in certain situations). Calls to
the head coach should be kept to a minimum. PLEASE only contact the coaches if there is an
emergency!
3. Any visit to a medical professional for injuries must be reported to the head coach and the trainer
immediately. We cannot allow an athlete to participate who has been declared ineligible by a
physician. Proper clearances must be submitted to the trainer to be cleared to participate.
4. Injuries or health related problems which limit the athlete’s ability to participate will be handled
according to the separate policy discussing athlete injuries and physicals.
