Endangered Species In many places in the world like Sumatra there are Indian elephants being killed every day for food, their skin and their tusks. These elephants are becoming extinct more and more by the weeks. If all the Indian elephants die out it will affect the food chain as well as the tourist attraction. There are only around 2400 to 2800 elephant left in the wild of Sumatra. The main people involved in the rescue are the Balinese who are trying to save the elephants whereas on the other hand the Sumatrans are responsible for the death of these creatures. The death of the Indian Elephants is of national significance because it’s a natural endangered species, worrying the people of Bali. There are around 29 either poisoned or shot in a year. The Sumatrans are killing the elephants for their tusks for the use of money. This helps the Sumatrans live, as they are very poor and need money to survive. Sumatra is an island in the western Indonesia, to the west of the Sunda Island. It is the largest island that is entirely in Indonesia (2 larger islands, Borneo and New Guinea. In the area of Ubud in Bali the elephants are rescued from Sumatra and placed in 2 hectares in a Safari park. Ubud is the largest elephant rescue park in the world. These elephants are well cared for and are a major tourist attraction. Ubuds elephant’s safari park is of particular to geographers as it has many exotic plants and animals. It also has a large museum, which holds a large elephant skeleton. This issue would be very important to physical geography and how animals interact with the environment. The main sources of information about this issue media attention (newspapers, TV and websites) about the Safari Park as a sanctuary and tourist attraction. People could start protection the Sumatrans elephants by getting sponsored from Aussies or local charity maybe even nation projects. The likely outcome for these actions are that these elephants can be more understood about there endangerment. This will allow society to become more aware about the importance of these animals safety. I think it is important to save these elephant because they are a very special animal and there are only 20 to 25 thousand in the world, and why would you wants to kill them for there tusks, skin and more. All animals should be able to live a happy and safe life. Plus they are the biggest mammals on the planet. I think some action that should be taking could be building a big elephant sanctuary, training the workers how to look after them, talk to the government about making more rules about poaching and maybe give the community a education about how important animals are and how they are living.
