I led to the formation of support groups among the affected families;
this in effect led to the reduction in the stigmatization of those affected

Clinical and psychiatric evaluation and treatment of the medical and
psychiatric complications of alcohol of people referred to the unit form the
different units of the hospital and referrals from elsewhere. Motivational
interviewing in order to help patients resolve and overcome ambiguity
about remaining abstinent. I caused changes in the lives of many long-term
users of alcohol, who instead resolved to live different kind of life. Taught,
post-graduates, undergraduates, Nursing and Paraprofessional students
during different phases of their training, involved in examining and
awarding final marks at the end of students rotations. Planning for medical
resources for the Alcohol drug control centre, Continuing medical education

This was a training position where I was responsible for assessing and
evaluating all patients who presented to my unit in both Mulago and
Butabika Hospital at different times of the training. I did this under the
supervision of qualified psychiatrists. During my rotations, I taught all
cadres of medical staff and students in the Paramedical school, I came to
realize that mental illness is a reality and many people live in the dark about
it. I managed the different mental disorders in both the acute and long-term
phases including those that are related to HIV/ AIDS. This put me face-toface with the AIDS epidemic vis-à-vis the psychosocial and economic
impact of the disease on the communities

Medical Outpatients Department of Mulago, I was in charge of patients who
had been discharged from the various in-patients wards and were to
continue treatment as they come from their homes. The diagnoses here
ranged from minor infectious diseases to the chronic and long term illnesses
like Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Heart Diseases, Renal and Pulmonary
disease, just to mention the basics. The Medical Out-patients clinic is a
challenging department due to the high number of patients involved and the
diversity of diagnoses handled. I was part of a team that ran an HIV/AIDS
clinic in this department before it was transferred to the Infectious disease
institute. This clinic is also traversed by Allied professional students at
different stages of their training. I conducted routine teaching and clinical
demonstrations.

As Company doctor here, I was responsible for drawing medical work plans
and budgets, planning for medical resources and updating management of

culminated in the International AIDS day. I conducted consultation and

I was able to mobilize the clinical Officer category into a formidable force
with the overall interest of improving their career, worked in tandem with
clinical officers on the grassroots in campaigns to combat HIV/AIDS where
we operated a 20 million Ug shillings project in IEC and behavioral change
components. We formed multiple dram groups and trained them in
communication and sensitization of masses against HIV. I organized regular
continuous Professional training courses, workshops and meetings to
increase on their clinical knowledge and skills base. While in this position, I
saw sizeable numbers of clinical officers’ return to school to further their
education. I did this on no donor support.
