Director of Development Position Description Position Title: Classification: Reports to: Direct Reports: Director of Development Full-Time, Exempt Executive Director Development Assistant, Communication and Grants Manager; Development Volunteers, Development Interns Position Summary: The Director of Development serves as a key leadership team member who is responsible for spearheading, implementing, and managing the development and fundraising efforts for SIRE. The position includes facilitating the fundraising strategies, researching, cultivating and engaging new and veteran donors and sponsors in ongoing service activities, managing the communication between the different fundraising committees and organizational departments, as well as donor/donation processing, data collection and acknowledgement. Additionally, the DOD is active in making strategic development decisions affecting SIRE and will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. This employee is responsible for developing a major gift program and planned giving process for SIRE as well as leading SIRE’s marketing efforts. Responsibilities Include: Fundraising and Development Managing and coordinating efforts to raise funds, exceeding annual budgeted income of $1,400,000.00. Analyze, evaluate and develop fundraising initiatives including but not limited to: special events, corporate, individual appeals, and sponsorship solicitation. Working closely with the Communication and Grants Manager in researching foundations, preparing proposals, managing grant request efforts and tracking grant submission efforts. Researching and cultivating gift-in-kind solicitations. Developing and growing SIRE’s individual donor base; managing annual giving campaign, and taking a pivotal role in cultivating major gifts. Support and partner with the ED and board members on all major fundraising initiatives. Involves Board Members in fund development efforts Support and partner with the ED and the Governance Committee on board development. In partnership with ED, communicates with board members on fund development issues. Management and Planning: Working with the ED and Development Committee to create an Annual Development Plan, including a timeline and actions steps for implementation. Generate queries, reports, and any other donor/development data as needed. Supervise and coordinate activities of staff and volunteers engaged in the fundraising effort and fundraising events. Maintain security and quality control. Monitor budgets of fundraisers and provide accurate documentation and records of expenses and revenues. Managing donation processing and donor acknowledgments including thank yous, appreciation, and recognition for donors. Identifies, develops, and mentors the development team. Works closely with the Development Committee Chair in preparation for Development Committee meetings. Work with SIRE’s Communication and Grants Manager and Administrative Assistant to keep up to date the calendar of activities including speaking engagements, resource fairs, and fundraising events. Overseeing the Development Staff in the preparation of materials for all Board of Directors meetings, and board communications, as well as individual board member paperwork and manuals. Supervises staff to ensure that the Donor Pro database system is updated regularly to include all contacts, information, and gifts from donors. Outreach: Serves as a spokesperson for SIRE, making public presentations, scheduling site visits, and cultivating relationships with prospective donors. Oversees the scheduling of meetings for the ED with donors/prospective donors Work with other team leads in identifying and cultivation of collaborative efforts. Marketing Supervise the development and maintenance of SIRE’s social media programs such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. Oversee the Public Relations effort; including media exposure, professional agency relationships, speaking engagements and award nominations. Oversee all branding efforts Overseeing the creation and updating of all marketing materials for volunteer, client, and fundraising purposes. Overseeing the website management to keep SIRE website updated, informational, appealing and topnotch. Works closely with the Marketing Committee and Communication and Grants Manager to develop and implement an annual marketing and communication plan. Other Attends SIRE sponsored events Adheres to PATH Intl Standards Upholds the values, vision and mission of SIRE Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required, CFRE a plus. Minimum of 5 years experience working in non-profit organization fundraising. Company/Agency marketing and P.R experience Proven track record of a minimum of 5 years of management and leadership capabilities Proven track record in a successful development program with individual giving, foundation and corporate fund raising, special events and major gift solicitation. Experience in grant writing and communication. Knowledge and understanding of planned giving, endowment and capital campaigns. Savvy, mature and emotionally intelligent; able to relate to people of differing ages and socioeconomic backgrounds with exceptional tact, discretion, and diplomacy. High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork with superb attention to detail; high degree of initiative. Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly, correctly, and persuasively. Able to work a flexible schedule Strong organizational skills with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of data base programs. A passion for SIRE’s mission, telling the SIRE story, and a propensity for listening to others. Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
