Response to International Migration
RIM is a nationally recognized model that offers community-based services to those
who have fled war and persecution from around the world.
Founded in 1986, RIM works with volunteers in each of its programs in order to
bring clients into their new communities with friendship and support. Services are
guided by professional Case Managers who share language and cultural similarity to
the clients they serve.
Special Events:
RIM holds an Annual International/Interfaith Concert in May.
The Annual International Dinner in the fall. There will be a Silent
Auction, Awards and recognition of volunteers.
RIM held an Interfaith Symposium on Immigration Issues on March 13,
2014 at Andover Newton Theological School. This is the beginning of an
annual presentation on Immigration Issues.
RIM works in an interfaith collaboration in order to assure that each client has access
to his or her own faith resources. This is also enriching for volunteers who learn
from each other about various cultural gifts and communities.
Special Projects:
The Services offered are:
Clusters: Community based resettlement is provided by Clusters which are
made up of members of collaborating congregations and community groups
that offer furnished housing, food, transportation, community support and
friendship.
Spiritual Care Givers: Visit immigrant detainees on a weekly or bi-weekly
basis and offer a listening ministry. Those participating initially receive
16 hours of training.
Job Preparation Program: RIM offers English classes from the Malden
office and also trains groups which work in other communities. Job
preparation is also offered by RIM staff. This includes: computer training,
resume preparation and a special training program for Certified Nursing
Assistants is offered twice a year.
Case Management: All of RIM’s volunteers are guided by professional
Case Managers who assists Clusters and clients in planning toward selfsufficiency.
The Green Team: Recycle old cell phones and ink cartridges. This will
keep them out of the landfill and will help support RIM.
Restaurant Cards: This is a great gift! You may purchase them on the
RIM Web-site. You buy for $20. RIM gets $10 and you may use for $50.
Donations Room: Please donate items which cannot be purchased with
Food Stamps. (paper products, soap products, tooth brushes, tooth paste,
hair brushes and combs, hand cream, note books, pens and pencils.) RIM
will provide these items to clients.
