DPTP: The Practice of Digital Preservation

DESCRIPTION
ANLTC and the CONUL Sub-committee for Digital Infrastructure and Services, are pleased to
announce that the DPTP Team from University of London Computer Centre will be delivering their
intermediate three-day course on digital preservation at the National Library of Ireland, Kildare St.,
Dublin 2, on 29 April – 1 May 2015, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. The Course coincides with
Preservation Week.
The Course is aimed at practitioners already working in digital preservation and who wish to broaden
their working knowledge of the field. It is ideal for practitioners who want to learn more about
applying practices in their day-to-day work.
Attendees are expected to have some familiarity with the OAIS Model, its concepts, and its
terminology. Although the model will not be taught on this course, some of the underlying terms
and concepts are used.
The course also aims to give attendees confidence in continuing to maintain their own current
awareness after the course, through further reading, future professional development training, and
continuing to develop their own practical skills through their own continued experience of engaging
with digital preservation.

COURSE PRESENTERS
Ed Pinsent is a Digital Archivist who has worked at University of London Computer Centre since
2004. He has a background as a traditional archivist and records manager for the Church of England,
The National Archives, and others. He is a tutor on the Digital Preservation Training Programme, and
a Board member of the Digital Preservation Coalition. He is part of the ULCC team offering
consultancy in digital preservation, and has experience in web-archiving, repository management,
metadata projects, migration, digitisation, policy design, and project management.
Stephanie Taylor has a background in academic libraries and has worked as a library and
information consultant and trainer / facilitator. She has over 15 years of experience in the library
and information sector. She also worked for around five years as a project manager & engineering
team leader for a library software company. She occasionally uses that experience to write
documentation and manage developers for HEI software development projects. Her main interests
are in all things digital library, social media, digital copyright, repositories, Open Access and Open
Development.
