Describe the nature and extent of work you would expect to accomplish during a 6- month
residency at Paisano:

Provide three copies of:
(1) The Application Form: Send three copies of the application and three
copies of your writing or project sample and support work.
(2) Writing or Project Sample: This should be an example of the project you
plan to work on or complete at Paisano. If this is not possible, send an
example from previous work(s) that most closely resembles your proposed
project. In the space below, give the title and form (poetry, short story,
articles, essays, etc.)
The total number of pages submitted (project sample and supporting work)
should not exceed 50 manuscript pages. Judges will read only the first 50
pages submitted. Published books (fiction or nonfiction, poetry, etc.) may
be included.
(3) Other Supporting Work: This is included in the 50-page limit. It can be
published or unpublished writing or reviews of your published work that you
would like to offer in support of your application in addition to the writing
sample. In the space below, give the title, form and date (if published). You
may submit supporting material on electronic media; however, judges are not
obligated to view them. Keep a copy of all work submitted.

Enclose the $20.00 non-refundable application fee (check or money order) made
payable to The University of Texas at Austin. If applying to both the Jones and the
Johnston fellowships, include $30.00 non-refundable application fee for both
applications in your packet for the Ralph A. Johnston Memorial Fellowship and check
the box on page 1 of that application. You must submit each application and its
accompanying materials in separate packets, but they can be sent in the same envelope
or box, clearly marked. Do not use binders, notebooks, separators, etc. – larger
paperclips or binder clips are recommended.
