Modern Woman,” Rhetoric & Public Affairs. Fall 2013, Vol. 16 Issue 3, p423-456. 34p.

The first article that I used for this assignment details the opinions and thoughts on
women’s rights of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States. According to
this article, President Roosevelt had a large impact in shaping the rights of women to what is
presently seen today. Roosevelt was a big advocate of motivating women to get out in society
more to obtain cultural equality.
I will begin in stating that this article would be extremely useful for any individual who
may be looking for information pertaining to women’s rights and suffrage. I found that this
article was simple and straightforward making it perfect for the average Joe. I should also note
that any woman in present day society might be interested in an article such as this one so that
they can learn more about how their previous generations changed history and won equal
rights for women everywhere. Women’s organizations that are situated all over the United
States may also find that the information within this article is useful.
Present day historians may also express an interest in this article and the methods and
reasons that President Roosevelt had in his support for women’s rights. One of the reasons
that Roosevelt may have encouraged women’s rights could have been to gain support from
these individuals. Another reason may have been that Roosevelt saw unrest in the nation due
to gender inequality and that he sought to fix this issue. Whatever the reason, any historian
would be able to make good use of this article in their research and writing.
The second article that I selected describes the life of President Theodore Roosevelt
through his writing. There are few presidents that were as passionate and effective through
their writing as was Roosevelt. He produced such works as “The Strenuous Life”, and “The man
in the Arena” which were both among his most famous speeches. Anyone looking to learn
more about President Roosevelt’s style of writing should read this article.
There is a variety of individuals who may find this article to be useful in learning more
about President Roosevelt’s life. For example, I believe that this would be a credible source for
a student to make use of in a research paper about Theodore Roosevelt. There is an array of
information within this article that describes President Roosevelt’s famous speeches and his
style of communicating with the American Public. Through reading this article the average
student would be able to acquire a great deal of information and knowledge on the kind of
individual that Roosevelt was.
A college professor or even a high school teacher may also find this article to be useful
in the fact that it would provide them with detailed information about Roosevelt for their
lectures. In reading this article these professors would learn that President Roosevelt’s writing
was his way of life. In a way, President Roosevelt was able to evade many crises’ due to his
excellent ability to communicate with a diverse number of people. I think that a lecture about
the speeches of Theodore Roosevelt would be a valuable and welcome addition to any history
class.
This article could also serve as an inspiration for modern journalists, and legal writers. In
reading this article, modern writers would be able to gain an understanding of how to be
persuasive and therefore apply this to their own writing. It is interesting to note that writing
saved President Roosevelt after he lost a fortune in 1886. With his incredible ability to write he
was able to live as an author for the remainder of his life. Therefore, any modern writer who
could learn to utilize the writing style of Roosevelt would greatly benefit.
