MORE OF YESTERYEAR In another glimpse at more recent bygone days readers will be amused at the prices on an old menu that a Friend brought to the museum. It was from the King’s Park Garden Restaurant and printed in the late 1950s or early 1960s. in 2013 but this is not the case. They have been working more industriously than ever on the planning and execution of a massive new Museum wide exhibition on the Western suburbs and World War I. The Museum has been quite overwhelmed with the fantastic response to its call for donations of items associated with the topic and have uncovered some remarkable history that will be of great interest to people with connections to the Western suburbs. The exhibition is due to open in November so please look out for notices about this closer to the exhibition opening. EARLY NOTICE OF MASSIVE NEW EXHIBITION: ‘WESTERN SUBURBS AT WAR’ One may have thought the Curator and the team at the Museum would have taken the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the fruits of a truly busy year of renovations and openings HISTORY IN A COFFEE CUP SERIES The Freshwater Bay Museum, in partnership with the Claremont Library, is presenting a series of ‘History in a Coffee Cup’ talks on the first Thursday of the month. The talks are being hosted in rotation between the Library and the Museum with The next talk at the Museum ‘TALES IN A TRAVEL TRUNK’, will be held from 10.00am to 12.000pm on 1 May. The introductory talk based on personal experiences of a migrant to WA will set the scene. The speakers will discuss the importance of an object and its significance to their journey and future life. An interactive session will then provide the audience the opportunity to share their stories about the significance of objects in their journeys. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF FRESHWATER BAY MUSEUM The Annual General Meeting of The Friends of Freshwater Bay Museum will be held at 3.00pm on Sunday 4 May 2014 and we strongly encourage you to attend and show your support. This AGM will mark a significant milestone for The Friends as we celebrate 40 years since establishment. We hope to be joined by as many Friends as possible to cut our 40th birthday cake and raise a glass of bubbles to the Association and its achievements. The meeting will provide an opportunity for you to hear from the Curator about what has been happening at the Museum over the year past and how the Friends have supported and promoted Museum activities. It is also an opportunity to view the displays set up for the national Trust Heritage Festival on Journeys as well as view the recently refurbished Education Centre and Museum displays. 3
