This is a local issue Make sure parents and student understands ALL the consequences Keep documentation Major consequences Cannot enroll in most 4 year state universities without additional coursework Universities will see this on the high school transcript or will be seen on the university’s admission application Individual Career Plan Requirements Career plan (ICP) includes post-graduation plan 2 yr college; business/industry potential; apprenticeship Indicate interests, skills, knowledge to support career goals List high school courses that will support career goals List out of school activities that will support career goals Any specialized training during or after high school? Develop a career passport List a record of assessments What is the student already doing? These activities may be organized into a career plan *The ICP is developed by the district with collaboration with the student and parent because there is a counseling element in the law ODE is working on an ICP template Some type of alternate graduation requirement of 20 credits i.e. 3 math; 3 science; 6 electives; English, Soc St; PE; Health; no fine art Districts can add on additional electives Districts have 3 options Minimum credit requirements Any additional district requirements Have no exceptions (we expect all students to take the Core) Essentially no opt out; the Ohio Core is it! Special Education IEP rules Controls the requirements for graduation Therefore, you are exempt from the consequences of Ohio Core Elements of the IEP can be part of the ICP The ICP can became part of the IEP Either include the ICP components in the IEP or write a separate ICP For any student on an IEP that includes the opt out, the ICP becomes part of the IEP if the transition plan includes all 7 of the ICP requirements. Such a student would be exempt from the college consequences in the law (Section 3323.08)
