In his 1996 paper ‘Prospering in Dynamically-competitive Environments:
Organizational Capability as Knowledge Integration’ Grant argues that the key
to understanding capabilities is the concept of knowledge integration. What
are the issues facing firms as they seek to integrate knowledge and why is
knowledge integration so important in sustaining competitive advantage?
You should complete a 2500 word essay on the above question. Papers
should be typed and double spaced and must follow an appropriate
referencing system.
Appendices can include diagrams, but not extensive analysis or discussion.
Avoid using foot and end notes.
You should attach an assignment front sheet to your assignment when handing
it in.
Assignment Output Style
Essays are a form of academic writing that require you to follow the general
structure of - introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. An essay is
written in whole sentences and paragraphs. If you do not use essay format
you will lose marks. Essays do not necessarily need headings, though these
are often useful for guiding the reader. Please avoid using appendices – the
inclusion of any essential figures and tables in the body of the assignment is
preferred.
The purpose of an essay as an assignment task is to demonstrate your
understanding of the topic and your ability to sustain an extended argument.
Referencing
Harvard style referencing is required for assignments in this module. The
Harvard system is explained on the UWE website at
http://www.uwe.ac.uk/library/resources/general/info_study_skills/harvard2.htm
If you submit a poorly referenced essay you will lose marks. If you submit an
unreferenced or plagiarised essay you will fail the assignment. Cases of
gross plagiarism will be referred to the Associate Dean (Programmes).
Plagiarism, collusion and non-compliance with assessment regulations
are offences under University regulations and where suspected, will be
investigated under official procedures. Penalties vary depending on the
severity of the offence but can include expulsion from the University.
Appropriate citation of source documents is essential when presenting
written work and it is crucial that you quote the books, journals,
websites etc that you used whilst researching your work. Information
about referencing is available from the Faculty Librarian or the library
web pages at
www.uwe.ac.uk/library/resources/general/info_study_skills/refs.htm
Be aware that when producing group assignments you are jointly
responsible for the work and any assessment offence penalties may
therefore apply to all group members.
