working, attend school, are in job training, are disabled, are being evaluated for training and/or employment, have a

The Nurse-Family Partnership is a voluntary prevention program providing nurse home visitation services to low income,
first-time mothers in the area. Highly educated, registered nurses begin services early in pregnancy and continue
visitation through the child’s second year. Nurses provide support, education, and counseling on health, behavioral, selfsufficiency, and parenting issues. Eligible women include first-time mothers who are less than 28 weeks pregnant, lowincome (qualify for WIC or Medicaid) and who reside in St. Louis City or County.

Nurses for Newborns exists to provide a safety net for families most at-risk in order to prevent infant mortality, child
abuse and neglect by providing in-home nursing visits which promote healthcare, education, and positive parenting
skills. Nurses for Newborns provides services to babies who are born with medical problems, born to teen moms or born
to mothers with disabilities/mental health concerns, or who are born into families who do not have money for even
basic necessities. In addition to medical care, we assist families whenever possible with donated materials needed for
safe care, such as diapers, formula, baby food, clothing, and bedding.

Parents as Teachers is the trusted resource for professionals and organizations in early childhood development and
education. Headquartered in St. Louis, our internationally recognized network of affiliates supports hundreds of
thousands of families in all 50 states as well as seven other countries. Through a proven parent education model
featuring in-home visits with parents and their children, Parents as Teachers affiliates equip parents with knowledge and
resources to prepare their children for a stronger start in life and greater success in school. Parents as Teachers has one
of only nine home visiting models approved by the federal government through the Maternal, Infant and Early
Childhood Home Visiting Program.

Is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect by providing short-term, emergency shelter for children, birth
through 12 years, whose families are faced with emergencies or who are in crisis. The Outreach Center provides referrals
or crisis intervention services as well as maintains a small supply of basic needs items such as diapers, food, clothing, etc.
Parent education classes, parent retreats, and other programs are also offered several times throughout the year at the
Outreach Center. Any parent, regardless of whether or not they’ve used emergency care or participate in the home
visiting program, can utilize the Outreach Center’s services.

Helping Hand Me Downs’ ultimate goal is to meet the immediate needs of the families they serve, while assisting them
in gaining greater independence. HHMD ensure each family has the clothing and supplies necessary to parent effectively
and then connect families to other local agencies that can meet their food, shelter and other emergency needs. In order
for families to receive support from HHMD, they must be referred by licensed social workers, counselors, and nurses
from one of the Referring Agencies & Organizations listed on their Partners page.
