General Introduction to Linyi University
Linyi University is a state-run, full-time undergraduate university, located in the beautiful Linyi
City with convenient transportation and a comfortable environment. It was established in May
1941, and was one of the comparatively early higher education institutions. The Chairman of the
University Council is Ding Fengyun and the University President is Han Yanming, who holds a
doctoral degree in education.
The university has a faculty of 2001 teachers, 1000 of whom with doctoral or master’s degrees.
685 have achieved titles of Full or Associate Professors. In addition, there are more than 300
part-time teachers and 53 foreign teachers. The university now has an enrollment of 34,455 fulltime students, and this number has been among the top of Shandong provincial universities.
Linyi University covers more than 7300 mu, of which the floor space is 1.1 million square
meters. The university possesses all the necessary teaching equipment, and all the instructional
and laboratory equipment is worth 256 million yuan (RMB). The library maintains a collection
of 3.75 million paper copies of books.
The university now offers a total of 62 undergraduate degree programs which cover 9 scholarly
disciplines: economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, and
management.
The university has established cooperative relationships with higher education institutions from
28 countries including the U.S., the U.K., Russia, Korea, Japan, France, India, and Poland. LYU
and these international institutions collaborate on associate, undergraduate and master’s training
programs, mutually recognize credits and courses, and exchange students. The university also
hires teachers from the U.S. the U.K., Russia, Japan, Sweden, Australia, and the Philippines to

Information - for Otago Polytechnic students participating in the Intern
Teacher Programme at Linyi University
1) LINYI UNIVERSITY WILL:
a) Provide admitted students with a formal letter of admission and other documents as may
be required for establishing their students’ status for visa and other purposes.
b) Assign admitted students sixteen 45-minute classes of oral English classes per week to
the appropriate school, department, or division, and to an appropriate academic advisor.
c) Make available all student services and facilities of Linyi University to students who
attend the Intern Teacher Programme.
d) Provide 3,000 RMB living allowance for each student per month, plus a single room in a
dorm with free water and power bill.
e) Provide students who finish the 16 week Intern Teacher Programme with 12,000 RMB of
International Travel Allowance from Linyi University.
If a student cannot finish the program for personal reasons and drops out of the program
in 8-15 weeks, Linyi University will provide the student 6,000 RMB of International
Travel Allowance.
The round-trip international travel fare will be the personal responsibility of students who
cannot finish the programme for personal reasons and drop out of the program within the
first 8 weeks.
f) Provide a post-arrival orientation to assist students in settling quickly into life in the host
environment.
2) OTHER COSTS:
a) All personal costs (books, travel in the host country, clothing, etc.,) in the host country
will be the personal responsibility of each student.
b) Intern Teacher Programme students must purchase the Health Insurance required by
Linyi University. Whatever medical/health costs that may not be covered by their
insurance must be paid by the students.
3) OTHER MATTERS:
a) Intern Teacher Programme students will be expected to abide by the laws and customs of
the host country, and abide by the policies and regulations of Linyi University.
b) Linyi University will have the right to return an Intern Teacher to Otago Polytechnic at
any time if the student’s intern work or behavior is not suitable in Linyi University’s
judgment. However; whenever possible, this right will not be exercised without prior
consultation with the appropriate staff member at Otago Polytechnic.
c) Whatever the reasons for an Intern Teacher student’s early withdrawal, Linyi University
will promptly inform Otago Polytechnic and other staff members who, by regulation,
need to be informed.
