Virtual Museum - Black Death
Task: Create a Virtual Museum about the Black Death.
Make your virtual museum using the Google slides app. (Use Google Chrome.)
Watch the video on this following site to see how to use the Google Slides app to make a virtual museum:
https://davidleeedtech.wordpress.com/2014/04/03/virtual-museums-with-google-slides-presentation/
See also the worksheet: ‘How to Construct a Virtual Museum in Google Slides’.
If your virtual museum is made with Google slides, you will be able to click the ‘share’ button and get a URL
(internet address) that you can share with the other members of your group so they can be working on different
rooms in the virtual museum. Your museum will be stored for free for you in ‘the cloud’.
When using Google Slides click ‘Insert’ and use ‘Shapes’ to make ‘Arrows’ and ‘text box’ and ‘Link’ to make
hyperlinks to your different slides/ Gallery rooms or picture information slides. Click ‘Format’ and ‘Fill Colour’ to
colour your arrows etc.
To access Google Slides on your DEC account, open your DEC Student Portal account, click to open your email
and then click the 9 small black dots on the top right of the screen
.
(Or in a different school system, you can use gmail and Google Chrome account.)
Any Google Slides or Docs you make will be automatically saved in your Google Drive

Your 5 rooms in the museum should include exhibits on the following five aspects of the plague:
1. The actual causes of the plague disease and what people in Medieval times thought caused the plague. Also
the responses of different groups in society to the spread of the disease, such as the flagellants and
monasteries.
2. How the plague spread across the world to Europe, and across different countries and then through the
cities and towns. (Look at the role of the trade routes, living conditions, and the rats and fleas!)
3. How doctors cure the plague today and the methods used by people in the Middle ages to prevent or cure
the plague.
4. Other immediate and long term effects of the Black Death, including population changes, wages and labour
shortages, peasant uprisings, the weakening of feudal structures.
5. The effects of the Black Death on Asian and African populations, and conflicting theories about the impact of
the plague.
