FUNDRAISING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Salary : Up to £35,000

Fundraising & Communications Officers

London based with travel and overnight stays in Manchester and Newcastle, as and when required

To manage a portfolio of fundraising nationally, which covers individual giving, corporate support, events and challenges, trusts and foundations, legacy and major gifts

To lead the delivery and review of the fundraising and communications strategy and plan

To lead the Fundraising and Communications team and ensure delivery of the financial and other targets included in the budget and strategic plan

KEY TASKS:

80% of time - Fundraising

Develop and deliver a fundraising plan to achieve an agreed income generation target.

To write and develop effective and well-targeted appeals aimed at trusts and other grant making organisations, and corporate bodies in order to raise funds for AKT.

To ensure that appropriate and timely feedback and reports are provided to trusts and statutory bodies on successful funding applications.

To oversee and help deliver a calendar of fundraising events nationally.

To work closely and pro-actively with a variety of people including the Chief Executive

Board, Operations Manager and Finance Manager to source information in order to develop high quality funding applications and pitches for sponsorship.

To establish and oversee teams of volunteer committees to assist the delivery of a range of fundraising initiatives and events.

To report regularly to the CEO on progress against objectives and targets.

To develop AKTs individual donor and legacy campaign to maximise financial and other benefits to the Trust.

To develop effective and beneficial relationships with donors, corporate and other potential supporters of the Trust.

To represent the trust at internal and external events

20% of time - Communications

To develop and oversee the external and internal communications function in partnership your colleagues in the senior management team and the frontline support team

Responsibility for the production of communication online and printed materials, including press releases.

Senior Management Team Responsibilities

 Working with Trustees and Chief Executive to ensure AKT meets all of its statutory legal obligations and responsibilities. 
 Provide support to the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees by administering and undertaking governance support functions.

As a member of the Senior Management team contribute to strategic planning and business development, including supporting the Chief Executive in facilitating the process of establishing the Annual Plan, Business Plan and Strategic Plan.

Liaise and brief Trustees as appropriate, including attending Board meetings when necessary and servicing the Finance, Fundraising and Communications Sub-

Committee.

Act as Deputy to the Chief Executive both internally and externally as requested.

Undertake any other tasks that may be requested, commensurate with the nature and level of the post and as may be required by your line manager.

Comply with AKT’s policies, procedures, management and monitoring systems.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

To attend regular support, supervision and agreed training.

To participate in the office cleaning with all other members of staff.

To represent the Albert Kennedy Trust appropriately and effectively at all times

To work within the Trust’s staff code of conduct and all other policies and procedures.

To organise and participate in some events out of office hours, e.g. fundraising and publicity events.

Other duties commensurate with the nature of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

FUNDRAISING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Essential:

Educated to degree level or its equivalent

Significant experience of management within the field of fundraising

Track record of success in a range of fundraising methods

Experience of developing a fundraising strategy / plan and successfully achieving fundraising targets using a wide range of fundraising techniques

Direct experience of preparing high quality written work in a professional environment

Experience of using a range of fundraising researching tools and techniques

Experience of preparing and monitoring work plans and budgets

Experience working within the voluntary sector

Excellent writing and presentation skills

Resourceful in identifying alternative sources of funding

Demonstrable understanding / appreciation of donor care issues with regard to trusts and statutory bodies.

Excellent information technology skills

Ability to understand budgets and summarise financial information accurately.

An understanding and appreciation of promoting and championing diversity

Enthusiasm and motivation to fundraise

Confident and persuasive presentation and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence

Ability to develop strong and positive relationships with fundraising and service delivery colleagues in the sector.

Ability to work well as part of a small team and to support, manage and motivate other members of staff and volunteers

Ability to multitask, prioritise workload and meet deadlines at own initiative and with minimal supervision

Willingness to travel and to work unsociable hour

Desirable:

Relevant qualification in fundraising

A knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness

Experience of line managing staff or volunteers

Experience in driving and managing an organisation’s communications strategy / programme
