Department of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Studies Assignment Submission Guidelines (Undergraduate & Postgraduate) This guide explains the submission of assignments and coursework on all undergraduate and post graduate programmes. Submission Guidelines 1 hard copy of the assignment accompanied by the signed ‘Continuous Assessment Cover Sheet’ must be submitted into the assigned Assignment Box outside the Nursing Administration Office by the date/time outlined on agreed assessment schedule. Only hard copies will be marked by the assessor. Continuous Assessment Cover Sheets can be downloaded and printed from: https://www.dkit.ie/nursing-midwifery-health-studies/documentspolicies/continuous-assignment-coversheet Assignments may be posted to the Administration Office, Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Studies, Muirhevna Building, Dundalk Institute of Technology, Dublin Road, Dundalk, to arrive before or on the date of submission. It is recommended that the student obtain proof of postage. The onus is on the student to ensure that the department has received the submitted assignment. 1 soft copy of the assignment must be submitted directly to the Turnitin site or through Moodle (as outlined by the lecturer) by date/time on agreed assessment schedule for the hard copy submission and will be subject to plagiarism checks. You are also reminded of the DkIT’s Policy on Academic Integrity available at: https://www.dkit.ie/registrar/policies/academic-integrity-policy 1 copy of every assignment should be retained by the student. Submitting Assignments to Turnitin The lecturer(s) will provide details of how to submit assignments to Turnitin. The student will have the opportunity to review the similarity index and amend the assignment before final submission to Turnitin. If the assignment is not submitted to Turnitin then a mark will not be awarded. Provision of Feedback Students are entitled to feedback on written assignments. This will be provided for in one or two ways: 1. Students can obtain individual feedback by making an appointment to meet with the relevant Module Lecturer on Consultation Day or on an alternate date agreed with the Module Lecturer. 2. Students may obtain individual feedback via moodle or email as per agreed dates on the assessment schedule. Final Reviewed at Programme Boards 8April2014 All marks awarded are provisional until ratified by the relevant Examination Board, however, the lecturer concerned will be available to give feedback on the provisional results awarded for continuous assessments when there is a terminal examination in that subject. Please contact the appropriate lecturer to obtain this feedback. Support in Assignment Writing Support with regard to academic writing skills is provided in a structured way as part of the curriculum in specific modules. Academic Support Tutorials are also provided by the Student Learning and Development Centre. Support is also available from the relevant Module Lecturer(s) in relation to providing general academic support however lecturers are not obliged to read draft assignments for students except in the case of research proposals and research thesis submissions. Student Responsibilities The student is responsible for: Ascertaining his/her assessment deadlines. Ensuring that his/ her assignment adheres to the ‘Presentation of Assignments’ guideline outlined below. Being aware of the DkIT Academic Integrity Policy and take steps to avoid plagiarism. Ensuring assignment is submitted on time. Signing in their submission to the appropriate assignment box (outside the Nursing Administration Office) and submitting an electronic copy of the assignment to Turnitin prior to the submission deadline. Presentation of Assignments 1. All course work is to be word processed, 1.5 spaced and on one side of the page only. 2. A signed assignment feedback cover sheet must be submitted. The lecturer will use this sheet to give feedback. Be sure to collect a copy of this feedback from the lecturer once it is made available. 3. Assignments must have a front sheet with - The Programme title - The title of the assignment and the module for which it is submitted - The Lecturer’s name - The student’s name and ID number - An accurate word count 4. Contents Page listing the topics contained in the assignment and their relevant page numbers. 5. Appendices should be included after the reference and bibliography lists. Appendices should be signposted appropriately in the text. 6. The DkIT Harvard Referencing System MUST to be used throughout the assignment. 7. Work should be properly secured/stapled and submitted in a plastic A4 pouch. Spacing 1.5 lines spacing Colour Black ink Pagination Individual pages must be numbered - bottom of page and centre (digit only) Justify Justify text in the document Re-use of Assessment Work Work that has been produced and assessed once by the college cannot be re-presented for assessment in another module; this would be equivalent to getting the same piece of work credited twice. Word Limit The word limit for each assignment will vary. Please take note of the allocated word limit for each assignment. The word count includes references within the text but not the title page, reference list, bibliography or tables. Assignments must display an accurate word count on the front sheet. Late Submission If for any reason you are unable to submit course work by the submission date you must discuss this with the relevant Lecturer. If there is good reasons for delaying the submission of course work, an extension will be granted by the lecturer prior to the submission date. Non Submission of Work Non-submission of work without extenuating circumstances will be counted as a non- submission and marked as zero. Requesting an Extension In extenuating circumstances students may seek consent for an extension from the Module Lecturer. Such requests must be accompanied by a satisfactory written explanation. In these extenuating circumstances students applying for an extension must do so at least twenty-four hours prior to the date and time of submission. Final Reviewed at Programme Boards 8April2014
