Water Fasting
Water fasting is a way of being able to cleanse your body, for when you feel you have a
poor eating habit. When you fast you have to be careful because not everyone is able to do so
because of our body conditions. The first few days of water fasting are said to be hard because
you are to not eat any solids only water with nothing in it to make it flavored. Depending on your
weight, you will know if you will have a hard time. If you are a little over weigh it will be harder
for you not to eat and only be drinking water so should see a doctor before trying this. You are
supposed to drink about a quart up to two quarts of water eat day. A quart is four cups of water a
day and two quarts would make it eight cups a day. Water fasting can also be used for weight
loss. In order for it to work for weight loss you have to do this for a few weeks. In order for you
to clean out your body you only need one to three days depending on how much you weight.
I started to water fast because I have been wanting to lose the weight that I gained after
high school. The reason I have been wanting to lose weight is simply because I feel that I have
been eating too much junk food and have gained so many pounds. I always see people gaining
weight after high school and I was one of them but now I have decided to lose weight. Since I
told my sister about this, she decided to do this with me because we both have a bad eating habit.
We eat our three meals a day, although we enjoy eating junk food more. Sometimes we
substitute our meal of the day with chips. We are always craving to eat hot Cheetos, churritos,
Tostitos, chocolate and many other junk foods. Since water fasting does not only cleanse your

body, it also helps you lose weight, my sister and I decided to try it together. My sister was
mainly interested because I asked her to do it with me so I would not have to do this alone. She
has always been supportive as have I and she agreed to not let me do this water fasting alone. We
started to do this on Monday of last week which was October 26th, 2015. We decided to do it the
first day of the week that way we had all weekend to eat what we wanted to because we knew we
would have to sacrifice food for a week. On Sunday night, my sister made herself spaghetti
which is her favorite meal. I made lasagna for my boyfriend’s family and I; of course because
it’s my favorite food and I love making it. I enjoy making lasagna because it’s not hard to make
and I enjoy having to put the layers of pasta and put a lot of cheese, but what I enjoy the most
doing is making my own sauce for the lasagna. To make my sauce I buy tomato sauce, ground
beef, onion, and cubito de pollo (chicken seasoning). I will miss lasagna because I love meat
flavor and water has no taste to it. Drinking water can be as if you have not eaten all day because
you’re missing the flavor.
For this pasted week my daily schedule for drinking water was since eight o’ clock in the
morning. This is the time that I usually wake up every morning if not before. I drank two cups of
water in the morning for breakfast. Later around one o’clock I drank another two glasses of
water. For dinner at six o’clock in the evening I added another two glasses of water to my menu.
I thought that doing this would make me so hungry during the day but it is the complete opposite
of what I am used to. I actually don’t think of food as much as I used to. On my first day I was
struggling and all I could think about was eating junk food such as hot Cheetos with cheese,
which I love. After I said to myself “it’s only for a week and you can do this do not give up.”
This worked for me and I reminded myself this each time I would think of food.

My first day, I woke up at eight in the morning and as usual I went into the kitchen to
check if there were any eggs to make and I thought to myself your supposed to be fasting. I then
went to get a cup with water and drank it real fast because I was really thirsty the second cup I
drank as I was making food for my boyfriend. I then went to class and when I came home I
drank another two glasses of water. Before bed I would drink another two glasses of water so I
would go to sleep with a full belly. My week consisted of the same routine and although the first
days were hard because not only was I not supposed to eat food I was cooking it for my
boyfriend. Smelling the food and not being able to eat felt like torture to me but I decided it was
more important to get through with this fasting at least for a week.
Our first few days where hard for us to not go into our kitchen and just make ourselves
something to eat. Liliana, my sister, texted me “Lorena I’m Hunnngrry!” I laughed because I was
also hungry and I replied “Liliana just go into the kitchen and drink water this will only be a
week of water fasting.” After I told her this she was relieved because she did not see herself just
drinking water and not eating any solids (food).She had replied with “OH okay Lorena it better
just be a week all I can think of is food but I’ll do it with you.” The main struggle we both had
was that we kept wanting to go into the kitchen. When I wake up early I tend to get hungry and
go into the kitchen and make food. I would see myself going to the kitchen and looking inside
the refrigerator and then think to myself “you cannot eat you are fasting!” I would then just go in
the cabinets, get a glass, and get ice to pour myself some water. My first days I would get really
hungry when I would find myself in the kitchen but after the third day I would not even think
about food. I was not able to simply go into the kitchen and get my glass and drink some iced
water.

I had my sister meet me on Sunday the last day of our fasting at my house. We met
around six o’clock in the evening and I asked her “how was it after the third day Lily?” she
responded “it was not as hard as I thought, the first days where really hard on me but after the
third day I did not think of food.” I asked her if she felt like her body was cleansed after eating
all of the junk food she usually does. She told me that she did feel like her stomach was not
bloated as it would be from eating too much junk, greasy food. She told me that even though her
body felt cleansed she was still going to eat food but not as much as she is used to. Liliana said
she would watch what and how much she eats.
Although my first days where hard, I got by the week that I had planned and I continued
to fast. I would have not believed that one can go without eating and only drinking water. After
those few days I got used to just drinking water and it was not a problem for me at all. I actually
saw myself drinking more water than usual. A week of water fasting was too much for me but
then after the week pasted I decided to keep fasting because I did not feel that I needed to eat
solids. I am now going on my second week of water fasting and it feels great. When I first started
to fast I weighed one hundred and fifty pounds now I weight on hundred and forty-seven pounds
and I feel that this is an improvement for just a week and a half. Water fasting does indeed help
you lose weight but just as easy as it was lost it can be regained just as easy. In high school I
weighted one hundred and thirty-five pounds; I want to weight that much now. I would only
need twelve more pounds to be the same weight as I was four years ago. Not only did I lose a
couple pounds, I also feel my body cleansed. I do not feel as bloated as I used to, I feel healthier
just by not eating greasy, and fattening food. I would always think of how hard it would be to
drink water all day and not eat food. I had always wanted to do so but never got around to it,
because I felt that I would not be able to go through with it because I love food. Now that I have

had the opportunity to really try I’m glad I did. Although my sister was not able to keep going
after the week she also lost a couple pounds and she was happy to see she lost weight but she
prefers food. Since my sister is not even heavy, the most she weights is one hundred and twentytwo pounds. I just asked her to do it with me so that I would not have to alone.
This experience has really made my life different because I am now able to feel good
about my body again. Even though I am not over-weight, I just feel chunky and do not want to
keep gaining weight as my life goes on. I have tried going to the gym but I just do not lose
weight and I believe it’s because I have not gave my all going to the gym in order to lose weight.
Water fasting has made my lose three pounds in a week and a half. It really does work to lose
weight and here I thought it was all a lie. Now that I was able to prove it for myself, I will now
water fast every time I feel that I’m gaining weight. Water fasting has showed me that you do not
have to struggle to lose weight and it’s easy if you want to lose weight fast and not have to
exercise. It was a tough task to do but in the end it was all worth it and I enjoyed myself. Fasting
has shown me that you do not have to eat a lot of food to get full. Eating half of what you
originally eat can get you just as full as if you were stuffing your mouth with food. Before
fasting I would eat until I could not fit food in my mouth anymore and in a couple of hours I
would be hungry again. Now fasting I drink water on my daily schedule and I do not get hungry
in between.
