Rationale for Goal: Fountain Valley High School continues to

1. Departments will continue to support Guidevisement by implementing grade
appropriate lessons developed through collaboration of Guidance and Subject Area.

1. Teachers will participate in Guidevisement to identify and encourage students to
enroll in A-G courses and AP classes. Teachers inform students of college and career
readiness and implement digital citizenship lessons.

achievement of all students, with an emphasis on students at risk of
receiving a D or F.

1. Examine D/F distribution data to correlate to other factors including: truancy/tardy
rate, homework completion rate, improper class placement, parent/family issues,
increased enrollment and stress. Collaborate to develop policies that address homework
type, frequency and grading practices.
2. Improve communication between classroom teachers and PELL & SPED teams.
Support notification, SST and intervention processes. Increase parent and community
communication by supporting under-represented groups in intervention.

Rationale for Goal: Considering the number of students earning
Ds and Fs, we are not maximizing the learning of all students.
CST/AP data and the D and F rate do not correlate in all
departments, not all students are fulfilling their academic potential.
1. Gather evidence and identify at-risk students to develop departmental intervention.
Participate in Instructional Rounds to create and share ‘best practices’. Ensure full use
of online grade and assignment posting tools. Implement “teacher team” meetings. All
department teachers meet to utilize MTSS and discuss effectiveness of interventions.

Prepare students and parents for CCSS.

Meet academic goals as created by the state.
1. Provide and participate in professional development targeted at CCSS and supporting
instructional best practices. Create Common Formative Assessments in all subject areas.
Integrate skills and concepts of other subjects across curricula. Implement Common
Core cross-curricular strategies and assess students’ academic success utilizing testing
results.
2. Educate all staff, parents and students on the CCSS, requirements of implementation
and assessment of student performance.
DEPARTMENT
Rationale for Goal: Due to federal and state mandated shift in
education, FVHS will assist all stakeholders with the transition to
Common Core.
1. Participate in multi-departmental collaboration to share instructional best practices.
Review departmental Common Formative Assessment data to determine progress of
CCSS implementation. Determine Departmental Action Plan focus areas based on
student performance. Utilize and promote student and parent education tools focused on
the CCSS.

1. Participate in professional development and multi-departmental collaboration to
implement the CCSS, Common Formative Assessments and student performance data
to guide instructional best practices. Provide feedback to students and parents about
individual student performance.
