Primary Objectives of 1. Provide academic leadership and coordination for Years 1

Position & 2 of the Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Oral Health

(Therapy/Hygiene) program at Holmesglen’s Chadstone

Campus.

2. Develop, implement and facilitate contemporary teaching methodologies.

3. Foster a culture of ongoing professional development and scholarly enquiry within the Faculty of Health Science &

Community Studies.

4. Provide leadership in the establishment of research activities with an emphasis on student learning and clinical practice, within the Faculty and in collaboration with key industry partners.

5. Take a leadership role in developing and maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with industry, professional bodies and the wider community.

6. Ensure quality assurance, course accreditation, and reaccreditation requirements are met at a high standard and in alignment with Charles Sturt University and Holmesglen requirements.

Specific Accountabilities 1. Provide academic leadership for the program to ensure the highest standards of delivery.

2. Liaise extensively with the Charles Sturt University (CSU)

Bachelor of Oral Health team to ensure program delivery at the Chadstone campus is consistent with delivery at the

CSU Wagga Wagga campus.

3. Advise the Head of Department and Dean in relation the recruitment and selection of high quality teaching and support staff and assist in the recruiting process.

4. Assist the Head of Department in the establishment of a course timetable.

5. Establish and lead teaching teams:

Set up and facilitate regular (weekly or fortnightly) meetings throughout each semester.

Ensure effective and supportive communication processes are established.

Facilitate planning and review workshops as appropriate.

6. Develop and update course information in consultation with the CSU Oral Health team.

7. Oversee and contribute to the development and ongoing monitoring of high quality course materials.

8. Participate in the further development of the Bachelor of

Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene).

9. Provide quality teaching within identified areas of expertise.

10. Implement appropriate teaching, learning and assessment strategies to ensure optimum student learning outcomes are achieved.

11. Promote and support a range of modes of delivery to meet client needs, including on-line delivery and on-line support where appropriate.

12. Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of all subject areas in compliance with CSU and Holmesglen continual improvement policies and accreditation requirements.

13. Work collaboratively with the Head of Department, Dean and teaching team members to address any issues arising from course and subject evaluations in an effective and timely manner.

14. Actively participate in the Health Science & Community

Studies Academic Committee.

15. Provide reports to the above Committee as requested by the Chair.

16. Foster a culture of scholarship within the Faculty of

Health Science & Community Studies:

 Provide leadership and mentorship to junior colleagues in relation to teaching, research, publication and community involvement;

 Facilitate education and clinically focused research activities within the Faculty of Health Science &

Community Studies; and

 Provide leadership in the establishment of research activities in collaboration with key industry partners.

17. Participate in ongoing professional development as agreed in annual Performance Development Plan.

18. Assist the Head of Department in the planning of professional development activities for staff teaching within the Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene).

19. Maintain student records and statistics ensuring that organisational timelines are met.

20. Lead the process of student selection and enrolment for the Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene).

21. Provide counselling and support to students in relation to course advice and academic progress.

22. Identify and appropriately refer students requiring personal counselling support to the Student Counselling service.

23. Plan, coordinate and monitor regular course meetings to enable effective planning, monitoring and evaluation to occur.

24. Develop and maintain effective procedures to monitor attendance, assessment and final resulting.

25. Actively support the Faculty in the planning, implementation and evaluation of marketing activities.

Educational

Qualifications

Minimum

Relevant higher degree

Preferred

 Dual qualification (Oral Therapy/Hygiene)

 Relevant PhD (or demonstrated progress towards)

 Tertiary adult education / teaching qualification

Knowledge  Demonstrated understanding of contemporary tertiary teaching and learning methodologies.

Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary issues in oral health care.

Experience Minimum

 Significant relevant experience in teaching and supervision and administration at an undergraduate level in the oral health therapy / hygiene clinical discipline areas.

 Demonstrated experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of undergraduate curriculum in oral health therapy / hygiene.

 Substantial relevant clinical experience.

 Active involvement in relevant committees and / or board structures.

Key Selection Criteria 1. Significant relevant experience in teaching and administration within undergraduate oral health programs.

2. Demonstrated experience in the effective and organised development, delivery and evaluation of quality undergraduate oral health therapy subjects.

3. Demonstrated understanding of contemporary dental curriculum models and frameworks and tertiary teaching and learning methodologies.

4. Substantial relevant clinical experience and a comprehensive knowledge of contemporary issues in oral health care.

5. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build and effectively lead teams.

6. Sound understanding of primary research methodologies and demonstrated experience in conference presentation and scholarly publication.

7. Ability to actively engage with, develop and maintain effective relationships with key industry stakeholders, professional associations and other education institutions.

8. Demonstrated commitment to oral health education and service delivery.
