Sustainability of ASPIRE modules at Ilia
State University/Georgia
Special Education courses, developed in the scope of project ASPIRE, were incorporated
in Special Education program on undergraduate and graduate level from 2013-2014 academic
year. Also the courses are taught by the Center for Preschool and Inclusive Education at Ilia
State University from 2013-2014 academic year. The Center for Preschool and Inclusive
Education provide in-service training for preschool teachers.
All courses are required ones. See detailed list below in Table.

Sustainability of ASPIRE modules in Batumi
Shota Rustaveli State University/Georgia
Special Education courses, developed in the scope of project ASPIRE, were introduced in
bachelor program of Department of Education of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
These courses are elective that consists of 15 ECTs and will be taught in VII-VIII semesters.
Before choosing these courses students study main courses of inclusive education (5 ECTs
totally) in V semester.
Students in Special education module have to choose not separate courses, but entire
module (courses of the module are listed below in table). This module will give students
knowledge and skills of working with students with special needs and will be allowed to work
as a special teacher in high mountain regions, where the great need of such specialists exist.

The modules listed above will be incorporate in educational program (300 ECT) for
primary teacher students that will be initiated in Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University in
2016-2017 academic year.
All listed modules will be also taught in in-service training program – “Inclusive
Education” for school teachers. This program will be initiated in September 2015, in the Center
for Inclusive Education for teacher professional development at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli
State University.
Access Liaison Officers
And Training Center in BSU
Within the scope of ASPIRE project, in Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University the
training Center for Inclusive Education was established that will provide services from 20162917 academic year. The center is located in main building of Batumi University, room N 58.
The center will serve every person interested in the issues of Inclusive Education and serve the
persons with special educational needs.
Responsible persons for this service are:
1. Marine Gurgenidze, PhD, Assistant professor in Department of Education
2. Nana Putkaradze, PhD student, the secretary of vice rector.
Sustainability of ASPIRE modules in
Georgian Portage Association
Advanced training modules developed in the scope of project ASPIRE, were supported to be
incorporated Special Education program on undergraduate and graduate level from 2013-2014
academic years.
Also the courses are taught by the Center for Preschool and Inclusive Education at Ilia State
University from 2013-2014 academic year. The Center for Preschool and Inclusive Education
provides in-service training for preschool teachers.
Georgian Portage Association research teachers have actively contributed and will continue
to promote further expansion of modules integrated. GPA staff (not only the ones who were engaged
in TEPMPUS ASPIRE project as research teachers) were, are and will be the invited lecturers and
tutors to carry out the modules.
Moreover, GPA will serve as a base of practice for students and will provide a valuable input
for practical growth of Ilia State University respective programs students.
All courses incorporated are mandatory.
The courses are taught by the staff of Ilia State University (ISU) and the Georgian Portage
Association (GPA) at Ilia State University.
Worth to be noted, partner higher education institutions (GIPA, BSU, SJSU) have discussed
the idea of mobility and tutor exchange/invitation as prospective steps, considering the technical
expertise and human resources of GPA.
