A major is differentiated from another major by required course commonality: 24 units of the required credit hours of a major must be unique, (i.e. not common or not dual use as a required element in another major), to that major. Does this plan have 24 units of unique required credit? Yes No 13. Minor: A planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas in which the University already hosts ABOR- approved majors, consisting of at least 18 hours and no more than 24 hours. At least 15 hours of the minor must be unique to that minor to differentiate it from other minors. Does this minor have 15 units of unique required credit? Yes No Does NAU offer an ABOR approved major in this subject matter? Yes No Answer 14-15 for UGC only: 14. If this is a non-thesis plan, does it require a minimum of 24 units of formal graded coursework? Yes No If no, explain why this proposal should be approved. 15. I certainly approve of these and wish you great success with your revised curriculum. Best wishes,Maribeth Maribeth Watwood, Ph.D. Chair, Department of Biological Sciences Northern Arizona University Flagstaff, AZ 86011-5640 From: James A Allen Sent: Monday, November 26, 2012 9:06 AM To: Maribeth Watwood Subject: Wildlife Ecology and Management Certificate Hi Maribeth, We are preparing a pretty major curriculum revision proposal here in the School of Forestry, which includes changes to our certificates. One proposed change involves the Wildlife Ecology and Management certificate, which we offer jointly with your department. Specifically, we are proposing to add several additional courses to the Botany block of the certificate, including three forestry courses and one biology course (BIO 431, Plant Morphology). The plan change proposal is attached. Because the courses in the current version of the Botany block are not all offered on a consistent basis or with enough sections, this has proven to be a very difficult area for scheduling and for student progression. All of the proposed new courses are offered on a more regular basis. These proposed additions have already been discussed with key individuals involved in the oversight of this certificate, include Teresa Lane and Tad Theimer from your department. If this proposed change is acceptable to you, please let me know so that we can include your reply in our curriculum revision proposal. Thanks,Jim James A.
