Celebrates the enactment of important legislation at the closure of the 187 th General Court
BOSTON- Representative Jeffrey Sánchez joined his colleagues in the House and Senate in enacting a number of important pieces of legislation as the 187 th
General Court came to a close. Among those pieces of legislation were An Act to Establish a Board of Registration in Naturopathy, An Act Relative to Access to Epinephrine in Schools, An Act Promoting Health through Workplace Safety for Social
Workers, An Act Relative to Annual Immunization Against Influenza for Children, An Act Establishing the Board of Registration in Naturopathy y, An Act Relative to Oral Cancer Therapy and An Act
Regulating Surgical Technology.
An Act Relative to Oral Cancer Therapy ensures there is parity in benefits for cancer patients for oral chemotherapy as well as chemotherapy delivered intravenously. Previously, intravenous chemotherapy treatments were predominantly viewed as a medical procedure with limited patient cost-sharing, while oral chemotherapy treatments were covered under prescription drug plans that transfer more of the costs to the patient.
“This legislation makes changes to ensure cost sharing for oral chemotherapy treatments is the same as for intravenously delivered therapies, granting consumers access to a wider array of treatments at a more affordable cost,” Sánchez said.
The Joint Committee on Public Health reported An Act Relative to Oral Cancer Therapy favorably from committee on July 28, 2012. It was successfully enacted in both branches and is now before Governor
Deval Patrick.
Representative Sánchez and his House and Senate colleagues also enacted legislation focused on transparency of workforce participation in public construction contracts which requires public contractors to report their hiring of minority candidates quarterly. Representative Sánchez is also pleased to announce the enactment of legislation around housing rights for victims of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault and stalking, as it addresses significant issues in the 15 th
Suffolk District.
