Dr David Askin
David has over 30 years experience working in New Zealand (Lincoln Uni), PNG and Indonesia.
Key skills and background include 
1. Project management, monitoring and evaluation, leading teams in drought awareness and management,
producing training material relating to Project Management and Sustainable Agriculture. Taught Project
Management at Lincoln University and worked with Salvation Army, PNG to develop a Project
Management handbook.
2. Led the Christchurch and Malvern based team developing Neighbourhood Support software managed by
Gets Ready Software Ltd. This is used by Selwyn District (www.selwyn.getsready.net), Christchurch and
North Canterbury.
3. Lead four teams of men/boys in re-roofing/carpentry and other practical tasks in Canterbury/Westland.
4. Managed donor funded projects (Canada Fund, World Bank, NZ Government, Mining companies) in PNG
that were part of NGO activities,
5. Internet based project management, networking/partnership and on-line library systems. Some of the
systems available to view – and used in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Refer footnote

6. From 2008 to January 2011 lead the Agriculture Innovations Grant Scheme’s (AusAID) Technical
Appraisal and Advisory Panel. That task required discussion and collaboration with a team of PNG experts
and the management of information relating to up to 120 proposals at a time. An online system was
devised for the team’s use.
7. Management of soil fertility in sustainable, village based garden systems. Emphasis on mulch, green
manure legumes, trees and fallow land management.
8. Wide range of practical skills and a lifetime of experience in carpentry, plumbing, house wiring (Powered
Up, Christchurch Ltd).

proposals in a competitive grant scheme, funds up to K250,000. AusAID funded.
Provide training manuals in sustainable gardening for Solomon Islands Rural Development
Program (World Bank) and for a church based rural development program in Cambodia.
Design and deliver project management information system, including on-line library with

Ongoing forest management, horticulture and garden development on 10 ha in NZ.
Other consulting work with Indonesian mine- village based vegetable and fruit production on
Wetar Island in Eastern Indonesia.

2008
Mid-Term evaluation of Church Partnership Program (AusAID) for Salvation Army in Papua
New Guinea. CPP is a HRM/HRD capacity building project. Provision of project
management software and training. Development of project management handbook for
officers working in the Church Partnership Program.
Communications report for Papua New Guinea Church Partnership Program (AusAID),
commissioned by CPP secretariat, Brisbane.
Assisted a team with Monitoring and Evaluation of Village Extension Worker program for the
Fresh Produce Development Agency funded by NZAID.
Growing seedling fruit trees then grafting/budding by way of establishing home orchard in
NZ.
