Honors Cohort
Application for Admission
Students accepted into the Watertown High School Honors Cohort travel as a team for five core academic subjects. All students will take Honors Integrated Biology, Honors English 1, and Honors Global
Issues, Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II in order to be eligible to take A.P. Chemistry during their sophomore year. All students must enroll in an Honors World Language class. A major objective of this program is to prepare able students for a full range of Honors and Advanced Placement courses during their sophomore, junior, and senior years. The Honors Cohort will provide students with a rigorous academic experience in all subject areas. Students will participate in at least one interdisciplinary project per year. This program will maximize the students’ learning experiences and their opportunities for admission to competitive colleges and universities. There are summer assignments required for most courses.

Application Requirements

Complete and sign this form (page 1 and 2)

Print two Teacher Recommendation Forms. Give a teacher recommendation form to one 8 th grade math or science teacher AND one 8 th grade English or social studies teacher who can attest to your academic abilities. The teacher will return the form to the high school directly.
3.
All completed materials, except teacher recommendations, must be returned to Watertown High
School by January 9, 2014.

All students who submit application materials will be asked to complete performance tasks in math, science, reading and writing on January 18, 2014, at Watertown High School. (Snow Date
1/25) The performance tasks will be given at Watertown High School on a Saturday from 8-
11AM
5.
Applications will be scored using the following scale:

Notification letters will be mailed to candidates by the second week of February, 2014.
All of the materials that I have submitted as part of my application are my own. I understand that this is a rigorous program that requires summer assignments in all courses, a significant amount of homework, and interdisciplinary projects. I am committed to attending Watertown High School and remaining in the program for the 2014-2015 school year.

Letter of Recommendation - Due to the high school by January 9 th , 2014
Evaluation: Please provide a typed statement that highlights what you believe to be the important information about this student, including a description of academic and personal characteristics, as demonstrated in your classroom. We welcome information that will help us to differentiate this student from others. It is very important that you provide specific examples that demonstrate places where you have seen the student demonstrate their academic, personal, and social skills.
Please be aware that this student will be contacting you in January to complete an online questionnaire/survey.
While the completed survey is not needed by the January 9, 2014 deadline, the student’s application will be considered incomplete until we receive the completed on line survey.
