BWC Ice Breaker Tournament Rules & Regulations This is a sanctioned showcase (Sanction Permit number is: 2015-2016-5977. All games will be governed by BC HOCKEY playing rules and regulations with some exceptions as noted. This showcase is an 8 Team format with 4 teams per conference. It consists of a 4 game crossover Round Robin format between the two divisions and a final 5th game within the conference. There is no winner, nor championship game. All information regarding the showcase will be updated on the website and is the first source for information http://www.burnabywinterclub.com/icebreaker Round Robin Format: All games will have a five (5) minute warm up, followed by three twenty (20) minute stop time periods whenever possible. Two hours will be allotted for each game. We will provide an ice clean in the middle of the second period for all games some exceptions may apply. Period Break: It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure their team is ready to go at the start of each period and the sound of buzzer after timeouts. Time Out: One 30 second time out is permitted per team per game. US Teams take note - Neck Guards are a mandatory piece of equipment and must be worn at all times. Mouth guards are optional but obviously recommended If there isn't enough time for a full third, the time will be adjusted by the timekeeper. The clock will revert to runtime clock at the 10 min mark of the 3rd period if required to ensure the game is done in 120 min. Example, at approximately the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period, if there is 8 minutes left in the 120 minute (112 minutes expired) slot then the scorekeeper will adjust the game clock to read 8min and runtime will begin. This precaution is to be utilized as a last resort and the ref will communicate this change to the coaches. Round Robin Points: Teams will be awarded: 2 points for a win 1 point for a tie 0 points for a loss NOTE: No overtime play during Round Robin Tie Breaking for advancement to Final 5th game seeding: The following tiebreakers will be used to decide final standings following round robin games: 1. Most Wins 2. Basic Goal Differential (GF minus GA) 3. Lowest Goal Against (total ACTUAL Goals Against) 4. Coin Toss Overtime: In the event the Final game (5th) ends in a tie, the game will proceed automatically to a 3 man shootout to produce a winner. The team that scores the most goals out of three shooters will be declared the winner of the game. If each team has the same number of goals after the three (3) shooters, then a sudden death shootout will continue until a winner is determined. Including the initial 3 shooters, no player can shoot twice unless the entire roster has shot (excluding goalies). General: No player may be rostered on more than one team Players’ who are assessed a Game Misconduct penalty in the last ten minutes of a game will be suspended for a minimum one additional game. Players or Coaches receiving a Gross Misconduct, Match Penalty or Fighting Penalty shall be suspended from the tournament. Referees are instructed to have zero tolerance for "Checking From Behind and Fighting”. A Fighting penalty assessed at any time during the game or a Checking From Behind penalty assessed in the third period of a game will automatically include an additional next game suspension. There is zero tolerance for “Abuse of Officials”. Offenders will be ejected from the game. The referees will be instructed to give a single warning before ejecting any coach or player from the game. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Players, Team Officials or spectators who behave in an unsportsmanlike manner anywhere in the arena or on associated property will be ejected and barred from further entry. We therefore ask that all managers and coaches instruct players and parents to understand and promote the spirit of the tournament. When the referee raises his/her hand no more players can change. On-ice officials have final jurisdiction in all calls and decisions during the game The tournament director, whose decisions will be final, will resolve any and all disputes. o Each conference will cross-over for a round-robin of 4 games with a 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 final game for a total of 5 games. o Teams will be seeded after the 4th game for pairing teams for the 5th and last game o All teams will be notified by 9:30pm on Saturday of their placement game via email and the website will be updated o http://www.burnabywinterclub.com/icebreaker o Please note, we may be flexible with the schedule on the last day with the US teams due to travel home Rink Locations Planet Ice Coquitlam 2300 Rocket Way Coquitlam, BC V3K 6Z2 Great Pacific Forum - Delta 10388 Nordel Court Delta, BC V4G 1J7 IMPORTANT COACHES AND MANAGERS All games will be played under BC HOCKEY rules. All teams are required to bring both their home and away jerseys to all games. Home teams will wear their light coloured jerseys and the away team will wear their dark coloured jerseys. Team officials shall report to Tournament game official 30 minutes prior to game time. After each game, teams will shake hands and line up on blue line. Players are to go on the ice for warm up only after officials are on the ice. Running time minor penalties will be 2 minutes in durations - if required.
