Highlights
Master’s of Social Work (MSW) Program
• SJSU’s BASW and MSW programs are accredited by the
Council of Social Work Education (CSWE).
The MSW program provides a generalist social work curriculum for
advanced multi-systems practice in the field.
• Approximately 350 students in the MSW Program
• Three (3) Fields of Practice

• Children, Youth, and Families
• Health / Mental Health
• Full-time and 3-year programs are offered
• The School of Social Work is committed to using and
promoting a transcultural perspective. This transcultural
perspective informs the curriculum and promotes advocating
for social justice, honoring the strengths of diverse cultures,
and enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.
Bachelors of Social Work (BASW) Program
The BASW program offers a major that provides a generalist
social work curriculum for beginning practice in the field.
Foundation social work courses meet the primary program goal
of preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and values
necessary for beginning social work practice. In addition to the
core social work curriculum, electives are offered to expand
interest in various areas such as child welfare, family welfare,
alcoholism and the family, and social work with the aging.
• Approximately 150 students in the BASW Program
• Minor in Social Work also offered (18 units). Currently
suspended until further notice.
• The BASW program is currently under impaction status. See
