The Internet-Based Communication Networks and Services research group (IBCN) of Ghent
University - iMinds performs research in the area of eHealth and eCare.
An ageing population, decrease of workforce in the healthcare sector and sustainability questions in view of healthcare economics are predominant in eCare. Adequate ICT and
Future Internet services, such as telemedicine, telemonitoring, distant coaching, decision support, knowledge management and smart ambient assisted living (AAL) solutions can contribute to a more sustainable and qualitative care for the elderly people or for people with chronic care needs in general.
Additionally, IBCN successfully collaborates with Ghent University hospital to tackle the eHealth challenges faced in the ICU department, such as long-term patient care, multidisciplinary disease management, data and knowledge management, enforcing guidelines and trend analysis to predict disease outcomes and manage risks.
Intelligent back-end and service solutions are being researched at IBCN, for e.g. based on machine learning techniques, ontology-based knowledge representation, reasoning and inference on ontology’s, self-learning software techniques, work flow management with optimized resource efficiency, resilience and support for dynamic updates and clinical decision support software. Also cloud-computing concepts are being investigated in order to support the healthcare providers.
The function will give you the opportunity to work together with researchers and engineers of different universities, research institutes and companies. As you will be dealing with several aspects of building systems (architectural design issues, software development), the function is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and further improve several of your engineering skills. The focus will be on software engineering. You will actively participate in the innovation and turning it into practice. You will have the possibility to pursue a PhD degree (not mandatory, depending on your interests).
You have a masters degree (or will receive within a few months) in computer science, informatics, electrical engineering, mathematics or a cognate discipline
You have analytical skills, you are well-organized, you are an excellent communicator, a team player and independent personality. You respect the predetermined milestones in research projects.
Your English is very good, both speaking and writing.
A proven experience in software development (e.g. student projects or master thesis successfully completed and in which an important software development component was required).
The Internet-Based Communication Networks and Services (IBCN) research group of Ghent
University - iMinds performs research in the area of eCare and eHealth. This research focuses on the development of future computer software for clinical settings and homecare.
The research is typically performed in close collaboration between national and international partners from both academia and industry. We are looking for a researcher who aids in the research towards future eCare and eHealth solutions. You will be working on a diverse range of research projects, building proof of concept applications wihthin this domain. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about software and are able to timely deliver results. You will be developing prototypes and demonstrations of research contributions. You will join the current research team consisting of post-docs, PhD students and researchers.
You have a bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering or mathematics or similar.
You have analytical skills, you are well-organized, you are an excellent communicator, a team player and independent personality. You respect the predetermined milestones in research projects.
Your English is very good, both speaking and writing.
