Engelhardt Dave Sevener Date: 5/6/2015 Date: 5/6/2015 FTE: SUMMARY: Teach the Agriscience curriculum to high school students. Provide students with skills and practical hands on experiences in the applied horticulture and horticultural operations to provide marketable job skills. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Provides career and technical education (CTE) program instruction, program management and curriculum development. Maintains a current advisory committee involved in business and industry. Is actively involved with Bay-Arenac ISD Career Center school committees. Demonstrates leadership involvement with student clubs Provides leadership role in the development of professional and post-secondary partnerships. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the student. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the locations provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports. Maintains accurate, complete, correct records, and program documentation as required by law and district policy. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises student support specialist’s daily activities, classroom, and students. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree with major emphasis in Applied Horticulture and Horticultural Operations, CIP 01.0601. Possession of a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an appropriate subject endorsement or education/work experience necessary to qualify for annual vocational authorization. Ability to work with high school student population to include extracurricular activities such as student clubs (FFA), fundraisers, and other events. Effective leadership skills to include: program development, strong communication skills, program and Career Center marketing to the community, presentation skills and Career Center committee involvement. Experience in operation of a greenhouse preferred. Ability to effectively develop curriculum and lesson plans that address Michigan CTE Agriscience standards. Ability to network within the community, develop partnerships, an advisory committee, and assist in the development of work-based learning sites for students. Previous experience with high school student population desired. Attend all required meetings and participate in all activities essential to the MDE approval of the program. Organize field trips and FFA functions while building and enriching an active FFA Chapter. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver’s License Valid Teaching Certificate in Career and Technical Education (CTE). LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
