The Philadelphia Story, arguably his best known play, was written specifically for (rumored lady friend) Katherine Hepburn, who played Tracy Lord both on Broadway and in the popular 1940 film, which also starred Cary Grant and James Stewart. The movie won two Academy Awards including Best Actor for Stewart. The play was also adapted into the popular 1956 musical movie High Society starring Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby. Barry's play Holiday (1928) was also made into a film starring Grant and Hepburn, in 1938.
