Dingman-Delaware Middle School – MR. JAMES MITCHELL On April 24th and 25th, the DDMS Theatre Club presented an outstanding performance of “Dorothy Finds Oz”. This original script embraces the subject of Bullying. The audience is transported from Dorothy’s real life with a Bully named Wanda to Oz where through her encounters with various characters she finds her “Oz”, inner strength to stand up for herself and her friends. The play featured outstanding performances by Heather Starr, Caleb Leiper, Jon Festa, and Leila Elario who were Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin-man, and Lion. In addition to the performance the Theatre Club also raised money for the Pike County Human Society. Ms. Schneck fostered Toby, a beagle mix, from the Humane Society to play the role of Toto. The Pike County Human Society was invited both nights to set up an adoption area in the main hall so everyone was able to view the many animals that need good homes. It was a true success on all levels. The students, parents, faculty, and volunteers all enjoyed the performance. The Dingman-Delaware Middle School congratulates Coach Wagenhoffer’s Odyssey of the Mind team for placing first in the Pennsylvania Odyssey of the Mind Competition held at Berwick High School. The team’s first place finish in Division 2: Silent Movie Category allows them to move on to the Odyssey of the Mind World competition to be held at Michigan State University beginning on May 20, 2015. On April 24, News Eagle journalist Katie Collins came and spoke with the DD Press staff. She actively involved students in analyzing and editing both press releases and photographs for publication, and gave professional tips about writing news stories. Students asked a lot of pointed questions about journalism as a career option, and Ms. Collins’ personal journey to success as a reporter. DD Press was pleased to be able to print Kaitlin Greener’s [Grade 8] article about this rewarding visit in the March-April edition of The DD Current, which is available on the school website. It was with great pleasure Dingman-Delaware Middle School Staff were invited again to participate in, "Bring Your Child to Work Day," on Friday, April 24, 2015. In the business of education, we are undoubtedly interested in helping students link the value of their education to the world of work. Most people, including the children of educators, don't realize what it takes and what it's like to be staff in a school setting. DDMS hosted sixteen guests, who ranged in age from five to sixteen years. Our staff was asked to think about how they could most successfully integrate their child into our environment. Our young guests were treated to a special appearance on DDTV, a pizza luncheon, juice boxes, a dessert treat, a goodie bag, photograph opportunities throughout the day, as well as what each individual classroom had planned. It was a really great, educational day for all! Under the direction of Club Advisor Sue Favaro, Dingman-Delaware Middle School students volunteered to participate in the Autism Acceptance Poster Contest sponsored by Pike Autism Support Services of NEPA. The theme this year was, “Seeing the world form a different angle.” The students created posters and applied their own interpretation of the theme. The posters will be on display during the candlelight vigil for Autism Awareness on Friday, April 24, at the Delaware Valley High School. Pike Autism Support Services NEPA announced the winners. The first place winner from DDMS was Seventh Grader Vincent D’Ambola. Fire Drill: 2 minutes 50 seconds.
