Subject. (Brief description of proposed change, addition or deletion.)
MA 21300 Prerequisite change
Justification. (Briefly list main reasons for proposed change, addition or deletion.)
Currently the Math/Stat courses required of the Business/Leadership students are MA 15300, STAT 30100, and STAT
30200. The Business and Leadership department and the Math/Stat/Physics department have agreed that the MA
21300, STAT 30100, and STAT 30200 sequence is a better fit for the Business/Leadership students. MA 21300 Finite
Mathematics I will be a more targeted course and will provide adequate math preparation for subsequent statistics
courses required of Business/Leadership students as well as courses in their major. The new sequence also calls for a
change in the prerequisite for MA 21300 from “MA 15200 or MA 15300” to “MA 11100.” It is believed that MA 11100 will
provide adequate prerequisite algebra knowledge for MA 21300. Majority of the Math/Stat faculty have supported this
decision.
Use the Current and Proposed spaces below for course changes only. Otherwise, mark “N/A”.

Impact on Students.(State “N/A” if proposal will not greatly affect students.)
Business/Leadership students at PNC will be strongly advised to choose MA 21300 in place of MA 15300. MA 15200,
MA 15300, or MA 21300 will serve as prerequisite for STAT 30100.
