Eh Lah Paw Mike English 2010 May 3, 2013 Farming is getting harder The world is becoming really polluted and the pollutions are very bad for our environment. Climate in the recent years is also changing which have many impacts on the farming. Things are changing too much in the world: technologies are being developing too much even in the agriculture world which also effect on the environment. Climate changes make extreme weathers such as tornado, hurricane, extreme cold in some countries and many others. Not only that, the earth is also getting hotter than it was before which make drought in many areas in many countries. Oil reserves also affect the farming. The weather changes, droughts, and oil reserves are making farming harder. Climate change is the risk and it is the trouble in agriculture because agriculture relies on weather. Even though new technologies are being introduced to agriculture, agriculture still depends on the weather. So, we should stop the climate change as well as we could. There are many ways that every one of us can help in everyday life. We can have stop weather change individually such as flying less, drive less because people in developing countries are traveling using technology devices all the time. Technology is good for agriculture in some ways. Some technology devices are making the agriculture easier to drag large plowing. They also allow farmers to harvest their plantation quicker. Technologies also help with planting seeds. As there are good things about technologies in the agriculture, there are also many negative impacts on agriculture with it too. Agriculture vehicle is one of the impacts on the farm which produce the problems including safety, economics, and equipment concerns. They are big and they can destroy things a lot. Safety is very important in the agriculture guidance system. Technology procedures method such as pesticides, herbicides, and antibiotics are the techniques that damage the environment on the farming. Most extreme weather such as tornado, hurricane, thunderstorms, and many others are causing flood whenever they occur. Tornado is the most powerful and the fastest wind that occur a lots in the United States. Thunderstorms are dangerous and they produce lightning. These causes affect the livestock on a farm. Farmers usually lived in lower lands in order to get water easier. But lands are getting flood easier whenever it cause extremes weather. Every year, farmers in the United States are losing their livestock on a farm by extremes weather. Their plantations were also damage which does not make them any profit. Many farmers are losing what they have because of the causing of flood. Flood is also the biggest problem to a farm. In just one year, farmers in the US Midwest have had their harvests destroyed first by drought and then by flooding (Terrett). There are many damages of crop by flood in many Asian countries. Asian country such as Thailand is the world largest rice producer. But, since the country caused flood very often, farmers do not produce good crops. There is lots of rough rice. Every year, prices of rice are getting more expensive. According to my personal experience, price of rice was only $30. Now it cost about $35 to $36. The higher foods prices make the poor become hungry because Asian rely on rice a lots. Droughts also make farming harder because it makes many problems to the foods production. The durations of draught is extending over the season. Droughts affect farmer’s livelihood a lot. When there are droughts on the lands, farmers will not be able to get good soil. Lands become drought when there is not enough rainfall. During the times of drought, water could become polluted that can weaken the development of agricultural and the water can be really harmful to the plantations. Drought has an impact on the growing of crops. Draught can also reduce the availabilities of foods that could produce the extreme hunger in the world. With no good soil, farmers do not have good plantation and their crops become wither a lot by the dryness. Drought do not only caused the problems to the plantations and farming, it also drawn back the economy too. It also affects the nearby communities and the surrounding environment. The impact of draught on a community is the effect on the water supply. In many countries in Southeast Asia, drought mostly affects rice production in many rice growing areas. The rising of drought is losses the economic in the country. It has lot of impact on farmer households. Effected countries include China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Lao (Dearing). The most effecting drought areas in Asia is mostly found in eastern India which make families with less income have difficulties of share. During the times of drought, many farmers fail on their agriculture and they could even fall into a poor community. China is also one of the countries that suffer from the common and harsh disaster every day. It often incurs climates disaster such as droughts, floods, and extreme cold are the main failure to agriculture that farmers in China faces. There are many different kinds of drought in many areas in China. Farmers in China not only face extreme weather such as drought as many other countries do. They also face extreme cold weather. The extreme cold could cause win, rain, and frosts, causing most damage on crops. Every year, many farmers are facing these conditions and losing their belonging according to the weather changes. Most farmers not only lose their profit to the occurrences of the extreme weather. They lose the profits of their plantation because of the drought, extreme cold and hard winds. They are also losing on planting because of the uses of technologies techniques too. Technologies help achieve farming in developing countries, but it does not help an in small countries. The using of technologies method harm farmers a lot because farmers will not meet the requirement and get anything back from what they had spent for their plantation. They will not be able to fulfill their families too. Under all these conditions, things that make climate change include human activities that change the weather which harm some people in many different reasons. The actions such as burning fossil fuels are one of the human activities that increase the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide which is not a natural gas. The activities of this cause climate change include global warming, loss of sea ice, glacier retreat, more intense heat waves, stronger hurricanes, and more droughts (climatechange). It also causes the soil. It reduces fertilizers which make farming harder to grow crops. Burning fossil also improve weighty amount of carbon dioxide that is really threatening on the climate change. Human activities such as this also produce air pollution that effect on human health. Although it gets less attention these days, combustion also emits volumes of pollutants, which can cause a variety of illnesses (Fischetti). Nigeria was a major agricultural exporter before oil was discovered off its coast in the 1970s (Hecht). It was the best agriculture country, but the plantations were neglected after oil was discovered. Nigeria developed into the world’s eighth-largest oil producing country (Hecht). The activities have an impact on farms that make harm to the agriculture. Nigeria big farms and it plantations were being neglected a lot since Nigeria country had become the oil producing country. Nigeria land had problem according to the oil production until it cannot feed it people enough. Many Nigeria’s agricultural production comes from ineffective small farms in recent years. Most farmers in Nigeria have little fertilizers or not even have any access to fertilizers. Many Nigeria’s farmers do not even grow enough food to feed their own families at all. Now, many farmers in Nigeria own just a small farm and do not even have good fertilizers for their plantation. Many people have been suffering a lot from food. Nigeria has become one of the world’s biggest importers of food staples (Hecht). Burning fossil fuels does not only affect farming, it also causes air pollution in many different ways that effect human health. Carbon dioxide that comes from the activities of burning the fossil fuels is going out into the atmosphere and it consideration is growing. Combustion of coal, gasoline and other fossil fuels in the presence of insufficient supply of oxygen liberates carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons (Khanna). The atmosphere is becoming very pollutants because of the burning fossil fuels activities. Air pollutions are increasing every time even by transportation. Air pollution is one of the most serious environmental threats to urban populations (Cohen 2005). Air pollutions lead the environmental threat to the health of the people in many different areas. It causes strong sicknesses such as lung and heart diseases that can even harm people to death. Because of the farming getting harder, the global food crisis is starting to begin. 1 billion people are already going hungry and a further 2 billion people will be affected (Carrington). The reason why global food crisis began is because of the impact of the plantation that weather disruption and the sharply risen of food prices. In many countries, farming and plantation were being neglected by many different kinds of extreme weathers that make the food production hard. When a country had a bad harvest time, food prices are increasing. Many children and adult died from hunger especially the poor and some farmers. Every human action that has an impact on the weather change includes transportation. Today transportations are very different from the day back. Transportation techniques such as vehicle, plane, train, and many others are impacts on the weather change too. But there are ways that we can help stop climate change that impact by transportations, especially the developing countries. To help stop climate change, it is not going to be easy. But as individuals, each of us can lower our carbon dioxide emissions through actions like flying less and improving the energy efficiency of our cars and homes (COTAP). Transportations such as vehicle also have an impact on weather change. All kinds of human action such as these are having an impact on climate changes that make farming hard. We can help by carpooling in everyday life; ride a bike if the weather is good. To help stop climate change by doing these things is not impossible for anyone. But, we could try. Also, if a company that burning fossil fuels help us along, it will be very helpful. Eventually, farmers in many different areas in different country could gain good fertilizers back. If good crops are able to produce more, food will be more available in the world and we may not be having global food crisis any more.
