1.DODDRIDGE BAILEY
Doddridge Bailey was born in Augusta County VA in 1788 and died
in Calhoun County WV in August 1872. On April 12, 1813, in Tazewell
County, VA, he married Phebe Belcher, a daughter of Isham and Patsy
(Hodges) Belcher. Phebe died in Calhoun county March 18, 1866.
Apparently, the Baileys had as many as eight children, since the 1830
census for Tazewell County, VA lists the family as having eight
children under age 15. The family was listed in the Logan County VA
(WV) census in 1850 and in the 1860 census of Calhoun County VA (WV).
They probably came to Calhoun about 1856, since Hardesty's History of
Calhoun County says that one son, William W., arrived in that year.
Information is available for only five of the Bailey children and no
birth or death dates have surfaced for the others as of this writing.
In the 1860 census of Calhoun County, the Bailey's were listed as a
household. In the 1870 census, Phebe had died and Doddridge was
living at the home of his son. Phebe died March 18, 1866 and
Doddridge died in August of 1872

they moved to Calhoun County VA (WV) about 1856. John served the
Confederacy in the Civil war in the 14th VA Cavalry.

William W. Bailey was born in Tazewell County VA June 10, 1816, a
son of Doddridge and Phebe (Belcher) Bailey. William married Lucinda
Godbey in Logan County VA (WV) December 5, 1846. Lucinda, a daughter
of Benjamin and Nancy (Elkins) Godbey, was born in Pulaski County VA
April 3, 1831 and died in Calhoun County WV after 1900. William was
Constable for twelve years and Deputy Sheriff for six years during his
residence in Logan County VA. He was elected Justice of the Peace in
Calhoun County in 1859 and served until 1861. He was again elected
Justice in 1872 and served until 1881.
When the Civil War began, William enlisted in Company E, 14
Virginia Cavalry, CSA. He served for two years in the capacity of
Second Sergeant, Orderly of Company E and finally as Forage Master for
the regiment. He was in the battles of Winchester, Gettysburg, twice
at Brandy Station, Cloyds Mountain, and Bulltown. William W. Bailey
died in Calhoun County October 28, 1897.

Tazewell County VA in 1837. On November 13, 1856, he married Elizabeth "Betsy"
Helmick, a daughter of Abraham and Fair Sabra (Connolly) Helmick. Elizabeth was
born in Kanawha County VA (WV) about 1839 and died sometime after 1870. After
Elizabeth's death, William married Sarah Anne "Amy" Haverty. Sarah, a daughter
of William H. and Alcy Ellen (George) Haverty, was born in Gilmer County
VA (WV) about 1855 and died before 1900. William A. Bailey died in
Calhoun County, WV in 1912.
William served the Confederacy in the Civil War in the 14th VA Cavalry. He
was captured by Union troops and sent to Point Lookout, MD prison.

Bailey, was born in Logan County VA (WV) January 23, 1848. His family
moved to Calhoun County in 1856, according to Hardesty's "History of
Calhoun County." Winfield married Elizabeth Hicks, a daughter of
Laurie Hicks.
Winfield served the Confederacy in the Civil War in C E 14th VA
Cavalry. He was a Sargeant and forage master.
