A toy microphone for speeches, balloons-regular, or if possible, balloons that say something like, “congratulations graduate”. Additional Equipment/ Supplies Required: Music player or computer to play music, cups, small plates, and napkins. Activities Visual: Show the graduation card in the envelope. Have the client take the card out of the envelope and read it aloud. Repeat the same steps with the diploma. Have a conversation about where they graduated from and what classes the client took while in school. Ask the name of their friends while in high-school or and extracurricular activities they participated in. Then show the client the camera. Talk Jessica Locker about some of the thing they would take pictures of on that day. Have the client reenact the scenes they described with the props provided. Client can also practice their fine motor skills by being the photographer. - Allow increased time for taking the graduation card out of the envelope and reading it. Could find a card with simple one to two syllable words. Demonstrate how to use the camera step by step. Auditory: Use the internet to play the song and sounds that you would hear at a high-school graduation. Have the client determine the sounds and where they would hear them at. Also, you could have the clients reminisce on their high-school graduation. You could ask questions like, what year did you graduate? Who was there? What was the weather like? - Encourage the client to mimic a graduation ceremony while the music is playing in the background. You can also play example Valedictorian speeches Tactile: Give the client the imitation money, ask client how much it is and what could they buy with that money. Ask if they were given money as a present or did they receive a purchased gift? Discuss about what graduates wear on graduation day. Do they wear casual clothes or formal attire? Do they wear something overtop of their clothes during the ceremony? What color is the cap and gown? What kind of fabric is the gown made out of? Have client feel the gown and try it on. Hand client the admission ticket for the ceremony, ask them to hold and describe the object. Ask client if they ever been to someone’s graduation, if so, who invited them? If you have the tassel from the graduation cap, this is also a good item for the participants to touch, and you could ask them what it means when students pass the tassel from one side to the other. Give the participant additional time to feel the money and admission ticket with also allowing extra time to try on the graduation gown. Smell: Ask the client some of the things they might smell at a graduation. Get the Air Freshener and perfume and have the client smell them and guess what they smell like. - Rather than just smelling the bottle cap on the perfume and air freshener, actually spray them into the air one at a time for a more potent smell. If possible, have real flowers for smell, or silk flowers (for visual) displayed in a bouquet, and ask if participants got or gave flowers on graduation day. Taste: Ask the client about some of the food/drink items they may have at a high-school graduation. Have the Sparkling Cider, mint, and cupcakes on the table to have the clients taste an item of their choosing. Ask clients if they had a graduation party and if so, what food was served? Party snacks such as pretzels and chips can also be offered to participants. To follow, have the client describe the difference between the items they tasted. Get items that have completely different tastes such as salty, sweet, or bitter
