Quick Facts • Never charge your batteries unattended • Do not ship damaged batteries • Never look at UV lamp when lit • If blue light is not shining from bottom of far right chamber, system is NOT purifying water USER INSTRUCTIONS Thank you for purchasing a Mobile Water RESQ UV system. By following the instructions on this page, you will prolong the life of your system, ensure proper operation and be certain you are being provided safe drinking water. What’s in the box? Inside the box in which you received your system will be the case. This case contains: 1. Mobile Water RESQ System 2. An orange storage pouch containing: a) Inlet hose with green band and attached mesh filter b) Outlet hose with white band c) Outlet nozzle 3. Lithium Polymer battery, charger & low voltage alarm Set up & Operation When preparing the Mobile Water RESQ unit for use, please follow these steps to protect the system and yourself from potential harm caused by electric shock. - Visually inspect system for any damage during transit. The system is designed to be able to absorb moderate impact, however, should any part of the system appear damaged, please contact the manufacturer prior to use. - Connect the inlet hose (green band) to the pump-side quick connector (left side). - Connect the outlet hose (white band) to the UV chamber-side quick connect (far right) - Attach nozzle to outlet hose (white band). Make certain the nozzle is in the ‘closed’ position. - Make certain both switches are in ‘OFF’ position (to the left) - If utilizing LiPo battery: - Secure LiPo battery to unit using Velcro straps - Attach power cord from battery into plug on unit (as illustrated in battery documentation) - If utilizing external power source: - Attach power cord into plug on unit - Connect power clips to power source – black (ground) first, then red (positive) - Turn on power to the UV lamp at the switch panel. - Allow 10-15 seconds for lamp to ‘warm-up’. Make certain a blue glow is visible from the bottom of the UV chamber housing (far right). If not, or if this glow should cease at any time during operation IMMEDIATELY discontinue use and contact manufacturer for replacement lamp – without this lamp, the water will not be treated for microbiological contaminants. - Place the end of the inlet hose (green band) into desired fresh water source (not salt water) so that the mesh filter is just below water surface but not touching the bottom of the stream/pond/lake/etc. as excessive intake of sediment/dirt will damage the pump. - Turn on power to the pump at the switch panel. - If operating the system with it lying on its back, briefly elevate the top of the system as the filter housings fill with water to allow any trapped air to pass through the first two housings. The presence of air in the third housing is normal and fully acceptable during use. - Dispense water into a container in which you can inspect the product water. The first time you operate the system, the carbon filters must be purged of any carbon fines which may be present – these will appear as small black specks. Any time the system is utilized, inspect the initial product water for any particulates and allow for the system to ‘flush’ the filters with approximately one gallon of product water. - Begin filling storage containers/dispensing water as desired. Disassembly - When you have finished dispensing water with your Mobile Water ResQ system, please follow the following steps to prepare your system for transportation/storage. - Turn off power. - If using external power source: - Disconnect power clips from power source – red (positive) first, then black (ground) second - Unplug power cord from unit and store in orange storage pouch - If using LiPo batteries: - Disconnect battery power cord from unit - Unfasten battery from unit - Recharge utilizing included charger - Remove and drain both inlet (green band) and outlet (white band) hoses and replace white caps on system inlet and outlet - If desired, remove housings from system to completely drain system of untreated water. Replace housings before storage. - If storing for a period in excess of 30 days, remove housings and filters and allow to air dry separate from the system. Replace housings and filters before storage. Battery Information - Your Mobile Water ResQ system includes a lithium polymer battery. Like most battery types, this is a complicated chemical and mechanical device. These batteries are great power sources due to their high levels of power output and storage in relation to their size. However, lipo batteries are fragile and can encounter problems if they are not utilized, charged and cared for properly. - We utilize only high quality lipo batteries with the Mobile Water ResQ system. Though you can purchase lipo batteries from a variety of sources, we strongly recommend using only those approved for use with your system. - Your system includes a special charger which is matched to your battery to ensure safe charging levels and to reduce the likelihood of overcharging which could potentially damage the battery and result in system failure or worse. Do not charge the battery with any other charger than the one provided with your Mobile Water ResQ system. Maintenance - Source water sedimentation will vary dramatically during field use, thereby it is impossible to predict how often the filters will need to be changed. However, when the filters do become full of sediment/contaminants, the flow rate will rapidly begin to diminish. When it has diminished to an unacceptable level, replace, first, the 1 micron pre-filter by using the included housing wrench to remove/replace the housing. This is easiest to do with the system removed from the case and standing upright. The .5 micron carbon filter should outlast the 1 micron pre-filter by a substantial amount of time/gallons. However, if after replacing the 1 micron pre-filter, the flow rate remains diminished repeat the process with the .5 micron carbon filter. The filters used in our system are very affordable, it is recommended that you order additional filters. MAKE CERTAIN that the carbon filter is rated for .5 microns – any larger size will not sufficiently remove cysts/sediment which prevents efficient operation of the UV lamp. - The ultraviolet lamp utilized in the Mobile Water RESQ is rated for 7,000 hours of continuous use. However, over the course of that time, the germicidal power of the lamp slowly diminishes. Also, each time the lamp is turned on/off, the life of the lamp is reduce by a period ranging from 5 to 15 hours. We strongly recommend replacing the lamp after six months of use. Carefully follow the instructions for replacing the lamp, which are found wrapped around the lamp itself. These lamps are proprietary to the system and are most easily available through Water Pure Technologies. Due to their light weight and relatively low cost, we suggest purchasing several at a time. Water Pure Technologies, Inc 444 West White Pine Drive Murray, Utah 84123 (801) 839-9309 www.waterpuretechnologies.com Tom@Waterbluegold.com Important information about your LIPO Battery The Mobile Water RESQ unit was designed to operate on 10.5 to 15 volt DC power. The voltage must be within that voltage range for the Germicidal Lamp to be effective. A fully charged LIPO Battery is 12.6 volts and fully discharged is 10.9 volts. The maximum and minimum voltage must be observed on the battery monitor to avoid damage to the battery. The battery monitor has a loud alarm that will sound a low voltage warning at 10.9 volts. Do not continue operation of your Survivor system with the battery below 10.9 volts or serious damage will be done to the LIPO Battery. The LIPO Battery can be charged with the included charger. Allow 4 to 6 hours to charge a fully depleted battery. We selected a slow charger to extend the life of the LIPO Battery. The supplied charger has three lights indicting the charge status. When you see two or three green lights the battery will be fully charged. Only chargers designed for LIPO Batteries should be used. The supplied battery monitor should always be used when the Mobile Water RESQ system is operated. The monitor shows the voltage of each of the 3 cells and the total voltage of all three cells. The alarm is set at 10.9 volts and should not be changed. Please see the picture showing how the monitor is connected to the battery. The monitor’s current draw is very minimal and will not affect the battery capacity. The water pump has a built in pressure switch that turns the pump off at 50 psi and on at 40 psi. If the filtered water pressure is 40 to 50 psi, such as would be expected if the Mobile Water RESQ unit was supplying pressure water to a boat or RV system, you can expect 100 gallons from a fully charged battery. With the filtered water pressure near zero, such as filling a jug or tank, you can expect 180 gallons from a fully charged battery.
