Health Care
Health insurance is mandatory in Germany. All international students are
required to have sufficient health insurance for the complete duration of
their studies in Germany. Due to IUBH regulations you can only be
enroled if you can prove health insurance coverage.
You can join a German public or private health insurance, or keep your
home country health insurance (Path 2 University students have a full
package programme that includes health insurance).
German public health insurance
Students wishing to purchase German health insurance can choose from
special offers for students under the age of 31. These insurance plans
are offered at a rate of ~79,- € per month. Although they offer slightly
different services, they all cover medical treatment and partially cover
medication. Due to cost-saving programmes in the public health
insurance, coverage has been reduced and you may have to pay for
some medical treatments yourself.
Health Insurance
Requirements
If you decide to join one of the insurance plans, you will be charged from
the first day of your enrolment in the university, even if you were not
initially been insured with them. Applying for German health insurance
has to be done upon arrival in Germany.
You must retain (and continue to pay for) your state health insurance
during a leave of absence or a study abroad semester. There are no
exceptions to this rule, even if you are in a country where the public
insurance will not cover yours.
Exception: If you are more than 30 years old you can no longer take
advatage of the favourable student rates offered by the public health
insurance carriers. In this case you can take advantage of our exclusive
offer for international IUBH students, please see below.
German private health insurance or foreign private health insurance
Alternatively, you may keep your home country health insurance or
choose a private insurance for the period of your studies. In both cases
you will need a letter of confirmation in English or in German for
exemption from health insurance in Germany. The letter that asks for an
exemption from the state system must be directed to one of the German
public health insurance companies. Applying for exemption has to be
done within the first three months of your studies, otherwise you’ll have
to join the German state insurance.
If you bring your own health insurance policy from home, please check
with your current health care provider if an international policy is
available. Please also gather information on which benefits your home
INTERNATIONALE FACHHOCHSCHULE BAD HONNEF GERMANY
insurer will pay for in Germany, as foreign insurance companies do not
always cover all costs occurring here. In this case, you will have to pay
for additional costs yourself.
Please note, that if you are privately insured you will generally be
required to pay all the costs of medical services and medication yourself
in Germany and then claim these costs back from the health insurance
company in your country of origin.
Being insured with our exclusive offer means that the IUBH will take care
of the administrative paperwork between insurance providers and
physicians.
Exclusive offer only for IUBH students
Due to a special contract with the insurance company Care Concept,
negotiated by IUBH and a private insurance company, IUBH students
have an exclusive offer which we recommend the IUBH Support Package
for international students:
Includes private insurance optimized for the needs of international
students
Includes liability insurance, mandatory for accommodation on Campus
Includes airport pickup at your arrival in Cologne (CGN) or Düsseldorf
(DUS)
Includes the IUBH´s network of English speaking physicians
IUBH Support Package: IUBH takes care of the administrative

IUBH Study programme
Compared to other European countries, Germany offers excellent value
for money in accommodation, food, services and entertainment. The
price of food, accommodation, clothing and cultural activities is close to
the European average, but below the average found in the major cities
of France, Italy or the UK.
Accommodation
The German government calculates that a student needs around € 800
per month to live comfortably. Surveys among international students in
Germany have shown that some can live quite happily on € 600 per
month
The IUBH School of Business and Management provides accommodation
in six apartment houses with a total of 203 residential units.
INTERNATIONALE FACHHOCHSCHULE BAD HONNEF GERMANY

bathroom, as well as single apartments with your own kitchen and
bathroom.
All residential units are furnished. Standard fixtures include a fully builtin kitchen, a room with bed and mattress, wardrobe, desk, desk chair,
shelves, armchair, small side-table, curtain rail, balcony or terrace. The
apartment houses additionally provide a laundry room, bicycle stand
(outside), cable and, to an extent, satellite radio and TV, as well as
telephone and internet access. In addition, washing machines and driers
are available in all the houses.
The apartment houses are located either directly on campus or close by.

Tourism sites
Bad Honnef - also known as "the Nice of the Rhineland" - is not only situated
idyllically in the Siebengebirge (a hilly region called the ‘Seven Mountains') and
considered one of Germany's most beautiful tourist regions, but is also close to the
cities of Bonn, Cologne and Düsseldorf.
And to the neighbouring countries of the Netherlands, Belgium and France. This
peaceful environment ideal for studying is, nevertheless the hub of Germany's
densest university and research landscape as well as Europe's number-one economic
region.
The region's extensive range of leisure-time pursuits provides a welcome counterbalance to the compact programme of intensive project work.
