Ryan Glidden ETEC 544-01 Dr. Newberry 3/1/15 Graphic Descriptions – Pythagorean Theorem - Week #7 1. Title Page Purpose: Slide with the title of the video and developer’s name (Ryan). Text: Pythagorean Theorem, Developer’s Name, and development date. Image: none 2. Introduction to the topic of Pythagorean Theorem Purpose: Introduce the video as being about a mathematical formula Text: Mention Pythagorean Theorem Image: A single right triangle illustrating the correct 90° notation. 3. Triangles Purpose: remind audience about triangle terminology. Text: Scalene, isosceles, right triangle. Image: triangles representing scalene, isosceles, and right triangles 4. Right Triangles Purpose: remind audience what a right triangle is. Mention that angles must sum to 180. Text: Right triangles are named for their right angle. A right angle means that the angle measures 90°. A triangle can only have at most one right angle. This is because all the angles sum to 180°. Image: A single right triangle illustrating the correct 90° notation. 5. Right Triangles Purpose: To get the audience to be able to see right triangles even if the shape is upsidedown or lying on its hypotenuse Text: All of these shapes are right triangles. Do you know why?.... You guessed it! They all have one right angle. Image: Several right triangles in various positions 6. Connection to the Past Purpose: Introduce Pythagoras and his Theorem. Text: Pythagoras spent much of his life on a quest for knowledge, and what he discovered, was that there is a special relationship in the sides of a right triangle. Image: A single right triangle illustrating the correct 90° notation. 7. Guided Practice (3-4-5 triangle) Purpose: Provide a guided example that students can follow along to. Text: The steps to solving the length of the triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem Image: A 3-4-5 right triangle with the right angle and all sides labeled 8. Learning Check #1 and “How'd you do?” (Learning Check Feedback) Purpose: Provide a learning check that students can complete with feedback after completion. Text: Show 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 and all the steps to solve for feedback. Image: A right triangle in a different orientation 9. Real World Application example Purpose: To show a practical application. Text: Show 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 and all the steps to solve a real world problem. Maybe involving a kite and the height of a building. Image: A building with a right triangle next to it and all the steps visually laid out 10. Learning Check #2 and “How'd you do?” (Learning Check Feedback) Purpose: Provide a learning check that students can complete with feedback after completion. Text: Show 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 and all the steps to solve for feedback. Image: A computer monitor or tv screen. Following slides will illustrate a triangle hidden in the monitor 11. Extra Practice Purpose: Provide an opportunity for optional extra practice Text: Show 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 and all the steps to solve for feedback Image: A right triangle lying on its hypotenuse with the correct 90° notation. 12. Credits Purpose: To thank the individuals involved with the instructional video. Text: Instructional designer, funding agent, and subject-matter expert names.
