WILMINGTON, DE – February 12, 2014—Sunesys, one of four lead providers building dark fiber capacity into IPR International’s Wilmington Network Access Point (NAP), has completed its build out of the northern route, which will provide unparalleled connectivity from the new carrier hotel to Philadelphia and multiple points north. Premier infrastructure services firm IPR, together with the State of Delaware, announced the launch of the Wilmington NAP in October 2013. The NAP’s strategic Wilmington location – at the center of the Northeast Corridor – together with more than 400 strands of dark fiber installed by Sunesys and Fibertech Networks, will provide connectivity to Philadelphia, Georgetown, DE, and Baltimore. The State of Delaware, which views dark fiber as a way to attract more technology-based businesses, awarded a $3.5 million grant through its Infrastructure Fund to make development of the statewide network facility possible. "This will not only provide residents of Delaware, whether individuals or businesses, with price-competitive bandwidth in the future but will also enable state government to connect its offices throughout Delaware," said Tami Fratis, CEO of IPR. Even more important, the NAP will help attract new businesses to Delaware by effectively reducing the overall cost of access to businesses statewide, she added. Sunesys and Fibertech Networks, selected due to their carrier-neutral relationships, have now installed 432 strands of dark fiber into the Wilmington NAP, enabling prospects and clients from Philadelphia and areas north, Baltimore and areas south, and almost the entire State of Delaware to access IPR’s cloud and data center services. In addition to unparalleled dark fiber bandwidth, the Wilmington NAP features 10 GB (gigabytes) of new lit fiber services from Windstream and Comcast Business, in addition to lit fiber services already provided by Zayo Bandwidth, Fibertech, Verizon Business, Verizon, and Level3. “The Wilmington NAP will help attract new businesses to Delaware by effectively reducing the overall cost of access to businesses statewide.” ~ Tami Fratis IPR – Chief Executive Officer PRESS RELEASE IPR Announces Completion of Wilmington NAP Dark Fiber Build Out About IPR IPR is a recognized industry leader offering co-location, private cloud, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solutions, as well as cloud-based data management, data protection services, and a full range of managed solutions.
