Volunteer Opportunities with Coastal Volunteers in Medicine 3/5/13 Clinic Hours are 4 to 8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you choose a clinic role, you can also choose which day you will work on a regular or occasional basis. Many of these roles are detailed in the Volunteer Manual. Please express your interest in the role you prefer. Roles to be performed DURING CLINIC HOURS: 1. Greeter/Reception – Welcome and check-in patients, inform of process, direct to reception or eligibility coordinator, aid patients while in the reception area, and invite them to return as they leave. 2. Receptionist/Make & Confirm appointments - Must learn Practice Fusion software, maintain patient records electronically, handle physical patient charts, and answer incoming phone calls. 3. Scribe – Must learn Practice Fusion and chart (transcribe or record) verbal information for practitioner, or for any other team member as necessary. 4. Clinical Assistant –Must learn Practice Fusion, take, and enter vitals and patient history, update prescription lists, supplies are kept in order, and shortages are reported. 5. Clinician/Practitioner/Provider – Must learn Practice Fusion, diagnose, and treat. 6. Interpreter/Translator 7. Prescription Assistant – Work with Prescription Program Coordinator and patients to direct them to sources or help them with applications for prescription assistance. 8. Discharge Nurse- Must learn Practice Fusion, ensures patient understands follow up, provides referrals as needed or directed by practitioner (i.e. specialists, social services, etc.) 9. Laboratory Log & Results Tracker – Must learn Practice Fusion to keep track of all lab work ordered and results received. 10. Facility Coordinators: Before clinic opening & after clinic closing, set up and/or store equipment and supplies. Roles which may be performed at times OTHER THAN CLINIC HOURS: 1. Volunteer Coordinator – Handle applications, volunteer database, volunteer agreements, collect HIPAA quizzes, maintain schedule and provide for on-call coverage. Regularly communicate updates to volunteers. 2. Credentialing Coordinator – Follow process of independently verifying licenses/education for all medically licensed volunteers. 3. Donation Jar Project – Assembly, dissemination, collection, counting and reporting of change collected in jars at local businesses for the provision of our emergency/petty cash fund to be available during clinic hours for needs like prescription assistance, bus fare, unforeseen supply needs, etc. 4. Administrative assistants - Apply computer skills or willingness to learn Outlook/Word/Excel/google docs, etc. 5. Sunshine Coordinator – Ensure recognition of all volunteers and patients , identifying special occasions, needs or ways in which Coastal VIM can further apply the culture of caring we profess.
