in plains and hills both from last week of August to first week of September.
 Garlic variety Agri Found Parwati may also be sown in second fortnight of September to
first week of October in mid and high hills of Dehradun.
3. After growing of Lobia, Moong and Urd during kharif
 Late sown varieties of wheat like Halna and PBW-555 can be grown successfully up to
last week of December up to 1500 m above msl and provide handsome yield i.e. 35-40
Qt/ha yield.
 Onion variety Agri Found Light Red may also be transplanted during DecemberJanuary.

2. Haridwar
Contigent crop
planning for Kharif season
Although District Haridwar has more then 90% area under irrigated condition through tubewll,
canal, pumpsets etc. Any type of drought and failure of mosoon may bring down the productivity
of the kharif season crops.
Delayed monsoon
•
Sowing of urd var. Pant U31, and Moong Var. Pant Moong 6 may be done in place of paddy.
•
Life saving irrigation in Sugarcane should be given.
•
Use of mulch and drip in sugarcane for efficient use of moisture..
•
Sowig of cowpea var Pant Lobia1 in place of Paddy for vegetable purpose.
•
Sowing of Urd Pant U31 in place of ground Nut and Seasamum.
•
Sowing of NDR 359 paddy variety as direct sown.
Flood condition
•
Early sowing of Rabi crops Like Toria var . PT 507 in the month of September.
Mid Season drought
•
Resowing of of Urd and Moong crop.

3. Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand state receives mean annual rainfall of 1200 mm and
agriculture in the district is largely rain fed in nature. Currently 91 per cent of net cultivable area
is rainfed.

Major Calamities during Kharif in Field Crops
Sl. No. Calamities
Problem
Measures
1.
Hails
Crop damaged
Resowing/ gap filling if damage is less
If damage is very high in latter stages than sow catch crop
Sufficient seed availability
2.
High
rainfall
Wilt and pest
problem
Use of pesticides
Proper drainage system
Disease resistant/ higher thresh hold level varieties
Sufficient seed availability
16
3. Drought
Majors to be taken to mitigate effects of drought on crops
 Use of drought resistance varieties
 Increase seed rate/ plant population
 Suitable crop rotation for catching the next season crop
 Use of ridge and furrow farming system
 Protective irrigation systems
 Use of mulch material
 Deep summer ploughing
 Enriching the soil by organic materials
 Limiting the rice cultivation
 Promoting tree farming/ deep rooted crops
Contingency plans to overcome drought on field crops during Kharif
 Re-sowing/ re-transplanting
 Use of short duration varieties
 Use of catch crops/ short duration crops
 Using agro meteorological advisory services
