The Cay – Culminating Activity Choices Pick one. THIS IS DUE NO LATER THAN Dec. 12th
1. Research Theodore Taylor, the author of The Cay. Find out what life experiences he personally had that helped him
write the story. Prepare a poster or powerpoint that shares the information you learn about Theodore Taylor. This
should be at least 10 slides. Email the finished product to my email.
2. Create two propaganda posters. One should represent an example of bandwagon and one should represent an
example of testimonial. They may be related to any subject that is school appropriate.
3. Phillip's father wanted to do his part for the war effort, which is why the family had to relocate to Curacao. Write an
essay explaining patriotism and honor. This will be graded according to the writing rubric and must be at least 5 well
written paragraphs.
4. Find 12 lines that Timothy said in the book that you feel were important to the story. Write each line in his dialect,
then write what he really meant. Tell why you picked each line and why it was important to the story.
5. Research World War II. Create a timeline and list 12 major events from World War II. They must be in order and you
need to provide a reason why you chose to list these events.
Grading Rubric:
All writing will be graded according to the district's writing rubric. All other components will be graded on neatness,
accuracy, effort.
