HUMAN RESOURCES POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Allied Health Private Practitioner Reporting To: Clinical Lead and Centre Manager Department: headspace Location: Redcliffe Employee status: Sub-Contractor providing Sessional Service GENERAL INFORMATION headspace is part of the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, a federally funded, innovative early intervention program that builds the health and well-being of young people (12-25 years), especially those who are at risk of mental health and related substance use. headspace Redcliffe was established through a Consortium partnership of local organisations, led by Open Minds Australia, and offers a multi-disciplinary model comprising a team of co-located services providing support to young people in the four core platform areas of primary health, mental health, drug and alcohol services, and vocational/educational services. With increasing demand and a commitment that headspace Redcliffe remains accessible to support young people seeking help, headspace Redcliffe is seeking to grow their team with the addition of private practitioners who can commit to the headspace model. Further information on Open Minds (lead agency) can be found by visiting www.openminds.org.au and further information on headspace Redcliffe, where the position is based, can be found by visiting www.headspace.org.au/Redcliffe ALLIED HEALTH TEAM headspace Redcliffe is seeking private allied health practitioners, such as experienced clinical psychologists, general psychologists, mental health social workers and occupational therapists to compliment the mental health platform of our service model. Practitioners interested in providing contracted services can negotiate flexible arrangements so as to maintain existing private or public work. Interested practitioners must be eligible to provide services under the Medicare Benefits Scheme: Better Outcomes for Mental Health Initiative. As headspace Redcliffe is striving to increase accessibility to services for young people, appointments are provided at no cost to the young person. This means that as a private practitioner, you would agree to bulk bill young people for sessions with a minimum of 70% of the Medicare fee being paid to you. You and the client are also asked to complete the headspace minimum data set to provide an evidence base for our work. While there would be no guarantee of a minimum number of referrals, as few or as many clients as manageable by the Private Allied Health Practitioner could be referred. All of your referrals will be allocated based on appropriateness and availability and if a private practitioner has a particular expertise or interest this will be considered when allocating the young people. HUMAN RESOURCES POSITION DESCRIPTION The Intake Team will undertake a comprehensive psycho-social assessment of all young people prior to referral to Private Practitioners and will ensure all consents to discuss are collected. A range of on-site complementary services are available should additional supports be required. The headspace team will work in partnership with Private Practitioners to provide a comprehensive, wrap-around service for young people. Reception and administrative support provides assistance with electronic billing, SMS reminders and appointment booking. The electronic medical record system will be available for Private Practitioners to directly enter all client contacts and notes. Contracted Private Practitioners will receive support from the Clinical Lead, have the option to attend Clinical Review meetings, and can elect to attend a range of professional development opportunities offered through the headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation. The headspace Redcliffe Centre is a vibrant venue. Private Practitioners will have access to consulting rooms, activity space, and a work space with telephone and computer equipment. KEY REQUIREMENTS Private Allied Health Practitioners (psychologists, mental health accredited social workers, occupational therapists) must have experience with young peoples’ mental health and well-being. They must be excellent at engaging young people and can demonstrate they can provide a youth friendly and inclusive therapeutic service of a high level of quality, with a recovery and strengths based focus. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Essential Minimum of two years’ experience in the assessment, diagnosis and provision of evidence-based treatments of mental health disorders Approved tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work or occupational therapy Ability to work independently, with strong organizational and time management skills A current positive Working with Children Check, or the ability to undergo such a check A current positive Criminal History Screen Clearance, or the ability to undergo such a check Eligibility to provide counselling and interventions under the Medicare Benefits Schedule (i.e. be registered, or eligible for registration, with Medicare Australia and have a Medicare Provider Number) Be registered with a professional body such as AHPRA or AASW Have a current ABN Have current Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance Desirable Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record software, preferably Profile Experience in working with specific minority groups such as ATSI, CALD and LGBTQI Doctoral or Masters level qualifications Endorsement in Clinical Psychology For further information please contact our headspace Redcliffe Centre Manager on (07) 3897 1897 or email headspace.Redcliffe@openminds.org.au PD/Version: HS RED Page 2 of 2 Last Reviewed December 2015
