STELMACH HOUSE LAND USE AND HISTORY REPORT
MATERIALS HISTORY REPORT
NARRATIVE HISTORY REPORT
Proponents are invited to submit proposals for research of the historical Stelmach House located at the
Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, that will include land use, materials, and narrative history.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Stelmach House project started in 2010, and was developed in partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian
Congress – Alberta Provincial Council, Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and Alberta Culture.
Honourable Ed Stelmach donated his ancestral home to the UCHV in 2011, where it was then moved from
the homestead to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.
The completed documents are to be completed by March 30, 2016.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The attached Terms of Reference documents the specific requirements for the project:
1) STELMACH HOUSE LAND USE AND HISTORY REPORT
The purpose of this is to provide input into the sympathetic design and the use of appropriate modern
materials in the restoration and interpretation of the Stelmach house
1. to collect and provide iconographic material and documentation relating to the history of the
Stelmach house and its environs, including the local rural communities of Krakow and Molodia
2. produce a land use and structural history report of no fewer than 25,000 words of text on the
Stelmach house.
2) MATERIALS HISTORY REPORT
The purpose of this report is to collect and provide input into the sympathetic design and the use of
appropriate modern materials in the restoration and interpretation of the Stelmach house.
3) NARRATIVE HISTORY REPORT
To provide taped oral history interviews, of archival quality and suitable for broadcasting of informants
found by the contractor to have prime knowledge of the Stelmach house.
PROJECT DELIVERABLES
The deliverables for each report consists of:
1.
To provide taped oral history interviews, of archival quality and suitable for broadcasting of informants found
by the contractor to have prime knowledge of the Stelmach house. A written narrative history report summarizing
the oral history interviews.
2.
To produce a land use and structural history report of no fewer than 25,000 words of text on the Stelmach house,

discussing the building and its yard, as well as contextual chapters or sub-chapters about traditional Ukrainian
houses, the history of the local community, and other comparative information about village houses, both in
Galicia and Bukovyna and in east-central Alberta before 1930.
3.
To produce a material history report of no fewer than 25,000 words of text on the Stelmach house ca. 192530, discussing all artifacts found in and about the house, including a complete inventory and description of each
item's placement, as well as contextual chapters or sub- chapters about traditional Ukrainian furnishings, the
material character of the house, physical description of the house’s occupants, and other comparative
information about rural houses both in Galicia and Bukovyna and in east-central Alberta before 1930.
4.
To produce a narrative history report of no fewer than 25,000 words of text on the Stelmach house ca. 192530, discussing the daily, weekly, monthly, and ritual calendar schedules of each main character associated
with the building, as well as contextual chapters or sub- chapters containing other comparative information about
rural houses both in Galicia and in east-central Alberta before 1930.
5.
To provide one copy of all reports listed in this Schedule in printed form according to the format provided by
the designated representative of the UCC- APC.
6.
To provide archiving CDs containing each report identified in this Schedule.
7.
To present all illustrations in each report outlined in this Schedule in JPEG and TIFF form, fitting within alt margins
and aligned in the same direction as the text.
8.
To consider the city of Edmonton as the base of operation for the duration of this contract.
9.
To meet with the designated representative of the UCC-APC in person at each invoicing period identified in
Schedule “B” of this contract, for the purpose of reviewing the Contractor’s progress.
10. To be available, with at least 48 hours’ notice and at the request of the designated representative of the UCCAPC, for meetings associated with the progress of work identified in this Schedule.
11. To provide one 8" x 10" (print-sized resolution) JPEG and TIFF file of any photograph used as an illustration in the
reports outlined in this Schedule.
12. To provide one 8" x 10" print-sized resolution JPEG and TIFF file of all historic photographs collected from private
individuals during the course of research for this contract, and accompanied by with permission for use waivers.
13. To provide conceptual drawings and illustrations for each report outlined in this Schedule, of yard plans, building
and room elevations furnishing and other items found to be necessary by the Contractor or the designated
representative of the UCC-APC for each report.
14. To provide copyright waivers from the holder of any interview, published archival photograph or any other
illustration, which has been used by the Contactor as an illustration in any of the reports outlined in this Schedule.
TIMING
Final deliverables are to be submitted no later than April, 2016.
 A complete draft is to be submitted to the contract manager no later than 4:00pm on March 1,
2016.
 Feedback is to be provided to the consultant no later than 4:00pm on April 14, 2016.
PROPOSAL SUBMISSION
As part of your proposal, please include the following information:



a cost breakdown for work undertaken monthly from April, 2015-January, 2016
a brief point form work plan explaining how and when deliverables will be completed,
demonstrating how you will undertake all the work outlined in the applicable Terms of Reference
document(s);
a description of your experience and suitability for completing the publication(s);

a minimum of two references; and
confirm your availability for successful completion by March 31, 2016
Proposals will be evaluated against:
 the project approach and strategy (per publication);
 proponent qualifications; and
 pricing.
