Book Scouts Summer Reading Program
Summer is fast approaching and here at Camp Ground Elementary we want to make sure that you have an opportunity to get in
some reading over the summer. We will be participating in a Book Scouts Summer Reading program. This program is for all
students that will be attending Camp Ground Elementary during the 2015/2016 school year.
This program is optional, however, if you meet all the requirements for the summer reading program you will be able to attend a
Back to School Reading Party in August.
Included with this letter is your Book Scouts Summer Reading material. Below is a list of things you will find in this packet.




Book Scouts Badges- These are the different types of books you can read this summer. You have an opportunity to read 15
different types of books. Once you have read a book in a particular category then you can cut out your badge, color it, and
glue it to your backpack.
Book Scouts Worksheets- These worksheets have to be filled out for each badge you complete. So for example: If you
choose to read a book about Elephants, that goes under the Animals badge. So you would find the Animals worksheet and
fill it out and answer the questions, then get an adult to sign it, then glue the Animal badge onto your Book Scouts
Backpack. Once that badge is done, then choose another one and do the same thing.
Book Scouts Backpack- This is where you glue your Book Scouts Badges.
Library Visit Log- This is where you log your visits to the library.
Depending on what grade you will be in during the 2015/2016 school year that will determine how many badges you must get
before school starts in August.



Future K-1: You must have 5 badges and the 5 worksheets that go with each badge complete.
Future 2-3: You must have 10 badges and the 10 worksheets that go with each badge complete.
Future 4-5: You must have 13 badges and the 13 worksheets that go with each badge complete.
Along with completing your badges for the summer you will be required to visit the Laurel County Public Library or the Camp Ground
Elementary Library or a combination of both 5 times over the summer. You must have the Librarian sign your Library Visit Log in
order to receive credit for it. The Camp Ground library will be open on the following dates and times during the summer, you will be
able to read and take AR tests and you can work on your Book Scouts badges during this time.
Tuesday June 9th: 10:00 am- 12:00 pm
