A Little Humor
Before performing a baptism, the
priest approached the young father
and said solemnly, "Baptism is a
serious step. Are you prepared for
it?" "I think so," the man replied.
"My wife has made appetizers and
we have a caterer coming to provide
plenty of cookies and cakes for all of
our guests." "I don't mean that," the
priest responded. "I mean, are you
prepared spiritually?" "Oh, sure,"
came the reply. "I've got a keg of
beer and a case of whiskey."

St. Joseph Parish Acts Of Mercy Project
St. Joseph Parish is very grateful to all who
donated baby items to our Acts Of Mercy
Project, TO CLOTH THE NAKED, during
this Christmas season. Your gifts will be
distributed by the Sparta Crisis Pregnancy
Center and the Shawnee Crisis Pregnancy
Center at Carbondale. You the parishioners
made this a brighter Christmas season. On
behalf of all the families who were touched
by your generosity, THANK YOU.
Our next Acts Of Mercy Project will be To
Feed The Hungry, beginning on Ash
Wednesday, Feb. 10th, and through Easter,
all worshippers are asked to bring nonperishable foods to St. Joseph’s Church each
week. These gifts will be distributed by the
Ava Food Pantry and the Steelville
Community Food Pantry. Thank you for
your caring and generosity.
Thank you to all who helped with the
Christmas decorations in church. A big
thank you to the musicians, servers,
greeters, and lectors, especially Fr. Ben and
Deacon Steve for a holy and spirit filled
Christmas Eve liturgy.
On behalf of our parish family here at
St. Joseph, we extend our sympathy and
prayers to the family of Ignatius “Aggie”
Dolce, who was laid to rest on Saturday,
December 26, 2015 from St. Joseph’s.
