Ogeechee Tech Alumni Association Board Meeting May 25, 2010 Noon Kennedy Annex Conference Room Present: Cally D’Angelo, Ken Friend, Angela Tyson, Jaime Riggs, Tyler Riggs, and Kathleen Kosmoski, and special guest Rusty Denning Absent; None Kathleen called the meeting to order at 12:05 pm. The minutes of the April meeting were read. Angela Tyson made a motion to accept the minutes, Jaime Riggs seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business Professional Development Seminars The board discussed the various possibilities for professional development seminars with Rusty Denning, Director for Business/Industry/Community Service. The board decided to offer a 3 part seminar series in the Fall on employability topics. Participants can attend any or all sessions. The session topics will include work ethics, resume building, interviewing skills and techniques, and dress for success. The sessions will be 1-2 hours in length during the evening from 6-8 pm. The exact dates will be determined at a later date. Ken Friend and Angela Tyson agreed to take the lead on this project. Future seminar topics include customer service, social networking, and an employability session for employers. Graduation Jaime Riggs and Cally D’Angelo reported on graduation which was held on May 13, 2010, at Hanner Fieldhouse. Approximately 200 graduates visited the alumni table after rehearsal with 15 already registering. Currently, there are 420 alumni registered with the association. Jaime Riggs assisted with the beach ball drop. The graduates seemed to enjoy the drop very much. Jaime and Cally suggested to move the table into old gym prior to graduation to hand out water and snacks and talk with the graduates then for better interaction. Disney Institute Kathleen Kosmoski provided an update on the Disney Institute training being held at Ogeechee Tech on June 22 and 23. The 22nd is an all-day training on Disney’s Approach to Business Excellence and does have a fee. On June 23rd, there is a free training for faculty and staff on entitled Disney’s Approach to Inspiring Creativity. Thirty (30) seats will be made available to alumni on a first come-first serve basis. Kathleen will email out a flyer the first week of June. Alumni Event The board discussed various ideas for the alumni reunion event. The board decided to have a low country boil. There is a budget of $1500. The tentative date is September 23, 2010 in the evening. Faculty and staff will be invited. Kathleen will work with the various clubs to help encourage participation. Jaime Riggs and Cally D’Angelo will take the lead on this project. Kathleen will send out an email to the alumni requesting volunteers to help with the professional development seminars and reunion event.
