Update, our two CME-accredited Career Advisor Training sessions are now on Thursday, Feb. 18, with times and places
listed below. These were rescheduled due to severe weather and airport closures in Washington, D.C., preventing our
facilitator’s travel. We look forward to seeing you there.
These are lively, interactive CME presentations. Both are facilitated by the AAMC Careers in Medicine Program
Manager, Jeanette Calli. You may attend either or both:

Educational Objectives:
Session 1- Upon completion of this activity, participants will help students integrate information presented to
prepare them to make an informed specialty choice by:
 Improving advisors’ skills in counseling students on assessing the competitiveness of various disciplines and
ways that students can enhance their applications (electives, research, etc.);
 Helping advisors identify and categorize students’ career needs for lifestyle, reimbursement and advanced
fellowship training;
 Improving advisors’ ability to distinguish students’ interests, values, and abilities as they relate to various
specialties; and
 Assisting mentors in formulating an individualized career plan, helping students through the process of
self-assessment, specialty exploration, and decision-making.
Session 2- Upon completion of this activity, faculty advisor participants will better understand, recognize and
integrate resources available to them as they help students with career choice and preparation for the residency
match process. Resources include:
 The Medical Student Preference Inventory (MSPI), which assesses students’ various interests and relates
them to specialties in which physicians share these interests. Advisors will understand how to interpret
this self-report instrument.





The Careers in Medicine Advisor Resources: Provides skills for advising medical students, tips for helping
students identify values and interests, and practical tips for helping prepare students to negotiate the
entire residency match process.
Charting Outcomes in the Match: help advisors to recognize and interpret detailed information about
characteristics of seniors who matched in various specialties in the most recent match. They will help
students better recognize their own competitiveness.
Ways to categorize specialty information, including training, lifestyle, salary, contacts, that are important
to students in evaluating their options
Links to FREIDA (Information on specific residency training programs in the U.S. and Canada), ERAS,
NRMP, etc., as resources for students to employ in their decisions process
Enhanced knowledge about special issues of the Couples Match, geographic constraints, deficits in parts of
the students’ applications, etc. to help them better prepare students for the match.
The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to
sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1
Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
